"Alright. Explain," Kurt said, sitting across from Sebastian in Dalton's library.

Sebastian looked extremely apologetic, which relaxed him that it wasn't some trap. "Kurt, I'm so sorry. I should have explained the minute you asked to go get coffee, but I didn't want to make it sound like I was turning you down, but then that happened... God, I'm an idiot."

"Just tell me what happened."

He looked up at him, chuckling uncertainly. "I'm allergic to coffee."

Kurt blinked. "You're what?"

"I'm allergic to coffee," he repeated. "I figured I could get away with not getting anything at the coffee shop, but then you tried to kiss me, and I really didn't want my first kiss with you to end with me going into anaphylactic shock."

He started to laugh. "You're allergic to coffee. That is not at all what I expected."

Sebastian cracked a smile, clearly relieved he found the humor in the situation. "Yeah. It's kind of an odd allergy, and if you asked me to go get coffee sometime and I was like 'I'm allergic to coffee,' it'd totally sound like I was turning you down."

"It would have," he agreed. "Well, now I just feel like I overreacted."

He shook his head. "Not at all. I mean, you don't really put yourself out there. I was stunned when you asked me out."

Kurt shrugged, cheeks going pink. "I figured it was time, and I really like you, and I trust you."

"I'm glad," he said softly. "And I don't want to ruin that."

"I'm glad you guys agreed to talk to me," Thad said sincerely as Nick and Jeff joined him at the table.

"Thank you for telling him for me," Nick said softly. He gripped his coffee in both hands as it sat on the table. "And doing all this when you didn't have to."

Thad blushed faintly and shrugged, clearly not knowing what to say to that.

Nick cleared his throat. "So, I'm just going to get into it. I am the youngest of my family. I have two half-brothers, related to me by my dad. My mom..." His hold on the coffee tightened. "Well, I can't live with her anymore, much as I'd like to. There wasn't a plan for who I would stay with, so they stuck me at my dad's house.

"I never visited my dad because he found out I was gay and wanted even less to do with me. Of course, the court didn't know that, so those dumb fucks stuck me in a–"

Nick was interrupted as his coffee cup exploded, making him jump. He looked down, seeing he'd squeezed it too hard that it'd broke, and there was burning coffee on his hands, on his chest, and some on his face. "Ow!"

Jeff quickly pulled him up and backed away with him before the coffee could get in their laps. Thad got up as well, grabbing napkins and trying to sop up the puddle of coffee on the table.

Jeff helped Thad with the mess, and Nick got a napkin to wipe the coffee off of himself. They'd drawn the attention of the entire coffee shop.

"Oh my god, are you okay? I'm so sorry, I–" the manager had appeared over by them.

Nick shook his head, interrupting them. "I'm fine. Don't be sorry, this is my fault, it's really not a big deal."

"We'd happily reimburse you–"

"I mean it, I'm alright."

Jeff appeared by Nick's side, setting a hand on his shoulder. "Thank you for your offer, but he really will be alright. We apologize about the mess."

After the whole mess was dealt with and the manager was finally reassured that they were being sincere, the three left the coffee shop.

"Well," Nick said as they walked back to Dalton. "I'm sure you can tell by that that sticking me with my dad didn't turn out well. The court is settling things, and he's no longer allowed to see me without supervision and my consent. It's already decided that I won't stay with him any longer, and I'm staying with Jeff while we sort this all out. So, it's already being dealt with, and there's nothing more the Dean could do."

Thad nodded, feeling relieved. "Okay. That's honestly so good to hear, I was worried and I'm glad it's being dealt with."

Nick smiled softly. "Thank you, for your concern. I'm not the biggest fan of strangers, and I don't like telling people things about myself, so I know I might come off as annoyed by all this, but I'm actually really grateful that there's people like you in the world. I mean, you could save someone's life by getting them out of a bad situation."

"I... I could?" Thad asked quietly. He'd never realized that, but it was true. He could... What if he already had?
