I fumbled with a piece of fabric that was sticking out on my hospital gown, as I wandered behind the nurses ahead of me to leave this place behind, and I could feel perspiration building up on my skin as I thought about how my parents would react to seeing me.

         I wasn't a sight to behold.

I looked exactly the way I was told my mindset was which was crazy, so I gulped while I started to pull my messy curls back out of my gaze while walking faster down the brightly lit corridors.

The doorway ahead was yanked open in which made me stare in surprise at the waiting room I hadn't seen in years, because patients weren't allowed in this place.

The waiting room was buzzing with anxious people waiting on grey chairs aligned against white walls that were in front of a desk, the desk had two burly men nurses who were calling out numbers for those who'd were going to be seen, and I still couldn't believe I was seeing this.

I looked over my shoulder at the nurses who walked me here that were smiling at me as they held the door for me opened, while I stayed in the doorway unable to move like the idiot I was, and my lips were dry when I licked them to say something.

"They're waiting for you, sweetie." I jumped at the sudden words that were said as I looked over at where they were pointing, it was then I couldn't breath, and once again froze.

The interracial married  couple who made me were sitting in seats rows back behind the other awaiting patients, I don't think they seen me yet, but I saw them.

I couldn't stop myself at that point to start heading in that direction through the doorway, my eyes not once met the gazes of the curious strangers who were staring at me.

As I meekly made my way over to the unbeknowst parents of mine who were staring around the place for me, and when I was behind them a inhale was needed for me to calm down my nerves.

                "Hi."

I winced at the stupid greeting that I blurted out it made me awkwardly cough as their heads whirled around on their thin necks
to take sight of me, I shifted nervously where I stood when they both gasped in surprised, "Oh, my baby!"

I was immediately grabbed by my limp hand to be pulled in front of the two as I shook in anticipation, I didn't know how to feel in their embraces that took of me as if their skeleton in the closet was now brought to light, and I being the skeleton was now out the closet.

          "We missed you."

My father's voice made me nod as I looked at his blackish brown eyes on his light brown round face, there were wrinkles from age since the last time I saw him, his kinky hair hair now sticking up in odd places, and a glance at my mother confirmed my suspicions they were both way older since they last visited.

Which was last year's
Christmas.

          "Let's head home."

I only nodded now being loss for words.

I toyed at the seat belt that kept me in place in the backseat as I stared at the sky where the sun was slowly emerging from a cloud that it was hidden in, I understood how that felt to be hidden away like the sun this time of the day, and I was finally settling.

If they don't send me back, maybe I'll be able to even shine bright like the sun too.

"I know this is crazy, " My father began speaking making me look at him through the rearview mirror as he drove past the highlands, "We've recently moved! I think you'll love it, the new place has it all and it's exactly in that neighborhood you liked when you were younger."

          I was now confused.

"We've moved to Alaska." My mother said in simple words that weren't riddles, the words made my mouth opened in surprise, and I swear that they had to be joking. Why there? The place that made me lose my mind in the first place.

"I-I don't understand." I muttered stupidly as if I were trying to make myself seemed dumber than they probably thought I was, I heard my father sighed as his eyes looked at mine through the mirror, and before he began to explain, "The market wasn't as good as it was before years ago, my photographs weren't making ends meet to afford the old place anymore, and when your brother was born I--"

"I have a brother? "

I asked in shock at the words that left his mouth which made my parents looked at one another with guilt while I gawked at them, my seat belt between my fingers being toyed with to calm my freaking self down, and I shook my head at the fact they hadn't told me all this time.

"Yes," My mother now spoke in whispers as I looked away from their eyes that were staring at me through the car's mirror, "It wasn't our intention to not tell you, but we didn't want him under... unhealthy influence."

I only stared out the window in my own world not knowing what to say, as I understood the words she threw at me that made me ashamed, because to them I was too much of a disgrace to be in their perfect family. So, why were they letting me
in now?
