Chpt. 30 Will you be my girlfriend?

Kevin's pov :
"Desiree Rosella Langue, you put those pills down right now or I'm calling dad."

Seeing her like that, sitting on the edge of the tub, crying - it broke my heart. I quickly grabbed the pills from her, handing them to Colby who was next to me.

I knelt down to her level, "Sis, you can't let people like him ruin your life or bring you down. Don't let them have an effect on how you feel about yourself." My words of reassurance caused her to look up at me, revealing her tear stained face and ruined makeup. "Your skin color does not define you."

"Desiree, your skin color is beautiful and neither you nor your brother deserve to be treated differently and with cruelty just because you're black or even half black." Colby spoke up.

I turned to look at him, giving him a small smile, "Thanks man." Dez smiled as well, thank God. "There's that smile we all love so much." I caressed her hair.

"I love you guys." She got up and hugged me.

"We love you, too." I whispered to her.

Colby's POV:
After she let go of Kevin I held my hand out for her. "May I steal her away for a bit, Kevin?" I asked him.

"Yeah, of course, man." He confirmed, nodding his head .

Dezy grabbed my hand and we headed downstairs with Kevin right behind us. We walked outside where everyone else was. It was currently night time and everyone decided to stay over.

"Excuse me, I'd like to have everyone's attention, please!" I spoke up, shouting to be heard over our friends' chatter.

They looked at us curiously as I still held Dezy's hand and turned to look at her. "I have waited months, longer than I thought I could handle, to ask you this question." I started my speech. She gave me a surprised look, her eyebrows raised expectantly. "So, what better time than now, in front of our friends, to do it. Also, I did ask for your brother's permission, obviously, so he's definitely not gonna kill me."

"I'm still debating on that." Kevin piped in, causing everyone to laugh.

I took a breath, "Desiree Rosella Langue, will you accept the offer of officially being my girlfriend?"

She smiled her beautiful smile, her cheeks reddening. "Well, it was about time! Hell yeah, I'll be your girlfriend." She hugged and kissed me, which caught me by surprise, but I pulled myself together in matter of milliseconds and kissed her back, wrapping my arms around her waist, barely hearing the sound of all our friends cheering.

"Damn, finally." Jake shouted.

"Right?! I've been waiting FOREVER." Kat commented.

Dez and I pulled away from the kiss, smiling widely.

"Y'all really know how to ruin a moment." She said through laughter, turning to look at the group of people in our yard.

"We try." Jake smiled, shrugging slightly.

Dezy's pov :
'Finally' would be an understatement. Either way, I was glad it happened.

I turned to my friends and brother who were all smiling at the two of us. I felt Colby put his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

"You two are definitely the cutest." Devyn gushed.

"I think you mean she's the cutest." Colby responded, tilting his head in my direction. I covered my blushing face, grinning behind my hands. "Ah, ah, ah, you can't hide that cuteness from the world, baby." He pulled my hands away from my face. The fact that he called me baby made me feel warm inside.
