ANDROIDS AND HUMANS

ANDROIDS AND HUMANS. They are the polar opposite of each other in every way possible, one is full of skin and bones while the other is just metal. One feels too much while the other isn't supposed to feel. One commands while the other listens.

One only wishes for equality while the other thinks of it as inferior.

Most importantly, one is alive while the other isn't. Yet they both look so similar. Too similar.

They both are lifelike.

The android stood alone in the elevator with a single coin in his hand, his eyes observing the numbers flashing above the buttons. He flipped the coin from hand to hand, hoping to pass some time as the little sounds of passing floors filled the silent elevator.

61, 62, 63

He began flipping the coin faster from hand to hand, his LED flashing blue from each movement. It was like a habit, flipping his coins when he was going on a mission.

He gazed at the numbers again.

69, 70.

He caught the coin in his other hand as the arrival ding filled the elevator. This was his stop.

He placed the coin back in his pocket and fixed his patterned-black tie before the door opened. He looked forward, his posture straight, confidence in his eyes.

As the door opened, he stepped out, his eyes already scanning the scene from left to right. Everything was a mess; starting from the tables to the decorations on the shelves. There were sharp pieces of broken glass on the floor, crunching under his feet when he walked into the room.

Once he came into the room, the officer who was standing by the elevator noticed him and started speaking into his police radio.

"Negotiator on site." He announced as he briskly walked away. "I repeat, negotiator on site."

He waited until the officer was out of sight and began his investigation. He walked past the fish tank and noticed that a fish was on the floor, wiggling in what he could identify as pain.

He kneeled down, reaching out a hand to grab the fish. Without much thinking, he decided to save the fish. He then stood up with the dwarf Gourami fish in his hand and dropped it back into the tank water. He watched with just the smallest hint of contentment as the fish slowly swam away in the water, a small notification popping up at the side of his vision.
