Chapter 1: Cannibals!?

Tris' POV

Oh come on! I'm surrounded by cannibals!?

As Greer walks away, Xavier pulls up his pants and steps in front of us proudly.

"Sit against the wall," he says as he grasps his gun from his shoulder.

We do as we are told and sit down.

"Stay here. The fires aren't ready yet."

Many of the men guarding us leave to help with the fires. Five men are left to inevitably slaughter us.

Tobias twitches. I reach for his hand and say, "Do not."

The men turn away to talk to one another with their guns loaded and in both hands.

Tobias whispers, "Your backpack."

Our weapons! I check one last time in the direction of your guards before leaning closer to Tobias. He unzips the backpack and takes three knives, and six guns out.

He takes two guns for himself and passes the rest behind my back. My hands search for the knives. Hopefully , I'll be able to kill them if it's needed. But, I don't know if I can. I prick my finger on a sharp blade realizing it's a knife. I take two knives and gun. I pass the weapons slowly so that the items won't make noises.

Christina grabs two guns. She passes it to Uriah from behind, so he can take the remaining knife and gun.

Christina and Uriah look toward me and Tobias. But, Tobias turns to me.

I suppose I'm leading this operation.

The men guarding us are preoccupied in drinking from a small bottle. Everyone else in the valley has laid down their weapons so they can help with the fires.

I look around for a place to escape. I see two options: the forest or the entrance. The entrance is only up a flight of stairs, and we will be able to sprint the rest of the way.

I bob my head in the direction of the staircase. I turn to them, and they all nod.

"Now," I mutter.

That's a small first chapter - I know

I know y'all have been waiting so I made it short.

Next chapter will be jam packed with action!
