PrologueHouston, Texas
I am here in the park doing exercises with my adoptive parents, I didn't know that I was adopted until I was 13, and consider my adoptive mother my real mom.
At first, I was so devastated, angry, and mad. I couldn't believe that they are not my real parents, I have so many questions in my mind, questions that I wanted to ask if I am unwanted, that make me feel that I am worthless.
They didn't know who my birth mother is, the social worker put me in the foster care system, and my birth mom signs all the legal documents for my adoption.
It hurt to know that my real mom didn't care, I hated her for abandoning me for whatever reasons she has.
But deep inside of me I wanted to find her, I wanted to reach out to her but what if she will reject me? What if she doesn't want to see me? she doesn't want to talk to me? That hesitation made up my mind to never look for her no matter what.
I wonder if we have the same green eyes as mine. I sighed at that silly thought.
Anyway, I don't care anymore because I have a caring and responsible family right now. They provided me with my needs and wants. But how about love? I don't know because if love does exist, maybe my birth mom will never give up on me for adoption.
A loud laugh interrupted my thought, I look in the direction of the voice. And there I saw the pretty cute little girl in the swing, I frowned.
Is she alone?
I come closer to her and kneeled in front of her, I saw her charming smile, and the sparkling of her big eyes are so captivating.
"Are you lost baby girl?" I said to her teasingly. I can't take my eyes away from her lovely face. She pouted her lips.
"I'm not a baby anymore, I'm already 8 years old, I'm a big girl now." She said while pouting her kissable lips.
What the f–ck!
Did I say kissable lips?
Jesus! I'm turning into a pervert with this 8-year-old girl. Damn it! I couldn't believe myself I said that!
I'm turning 15 years old this year and I don't want to become a pedophile! I scolded myself.
"What are you doing here? Where's your mom? It's not safe in here to be alone, pretty girl." I seriously said but she just giggled and I love the sound of it.
"Do you think I'm pretty?" She asked me eagerly.
"Of course baby girl, you are very pretty." I smiled at her. I don't know but she makes my heart happy.
"Thank you." She said shyly and I can saw the happiness in her eyes.
"You're handsome, I love your eyes." She said again and it makes my heart fluttered and I'm blushing, damn it!
"Thank you, baby girl. Come on, let's go to your mom." I held her tiny hand and it feels so amazing.
I just followed her while holding her hand tightly. And then I saw a woman running towards us, she looked so worried, she hugged the little girl and grab her away from me.
I felt embarrassed, maybe I'm so obvious that I'm eyeing her daughter. Damn! I'm such a pervert!
"I'm sorry ma'am, I just saw her in the park alone. I don't have bad intentions with her." I said and give her a shy smile.
She just stared at me, I don't know why but my heart skips a beat. She looks so beautiful, she has a fierce look and a beauty you couldn't resist.
I frowned because I don't see a similarity between her, to her daughter. And why the hell she's crying?
"What's your name?" she asked me.
I wanted to answer her and ask her why she's crying, I can saw the sadness and longing in her eyes, I felt so confused because I wanted to wipe her tears.
"Accent! Let's go... Your mom is waiting." I heard the voice of my dad calling my name.
"Yes dad, I'm coming," I said to him excitedly.
"Excuse me, I have to go ma'am." I politely excused myself to the beautiful lady, before I turn my back, I glance in the direction of her daughter, I smiled because she's so cute fixing the ribbons of her dress.
I promised myself that I will go back every day just to see her again, that little girl with a pretty big eye sparkling like a diamond, I will ask her name if I see her again.
"Mom, can we stay another day?" I asked my Mom, my eyes are begging her to agree with me.
She was busy putting our clothes on the luggage, looks like she was in a hurry.
"Accent, we can't stay any longer in here, your Dad has business to do." My mom answered.
"But Mom–"
"Stop arguing, Accent. You're not a boy anymore," she said irritated.
I kept silent, I don't want to go. I already used to live in this country. I want to go back to the park tomorrow to see the little girl I met in the park a while ago, I don't know her name yet.
My Mom stopped packing our things and look at me, her facial expression softened.
"I'm sorry, Ace." She said. She was the one who gave me that 'Ace' nickname.
"I understand, Mom," I said, my gaze dropped on the floor.
I feel my Mom's hand touched my hair gently, I look at her. She smiles at me, I can see in her eyes that she doesn't want to go.
"Mom, can I go back to the park again? I just need to see someone. Promise, I will be back before Dad comes back." I said.
She nodded.
"Okay, just be careful." She said worriedly.
I was wondering what she was worried about. I kissed her cheek before I left. I was just running down the stairs when my Dad came out from the kitchen.
I thought he was not home yet. I stopped on my track and stared at him, he looked devastated.
"Accent, are you going somewhere?" he asked anxiously.
I was hesitant to answer him.
"Can I go out, a minute?"
"No, we need to go. Tell your Mom I will wait in the van." He said in a hurry.
I can't help myself but ask, "Why in a hurry, Dad?"
But he never answered and from that day I never get a chance to know the little girl's name because unexpectedly we moved in again, first we lived in Australia where my birth mom gave up on me for adoption, so I thought she's Australian. The second place is here in Houston, Texas and now we're moving to Brazil.
And my life changed into a living hell.
And there's only one rule.
