Chapter 4: mild distaste

          (3rd POV)

The three of them were an odd group. Kieron, Faron, and (Y/N) were sat close to a wall. They got occasional side long glances and whispers from time to time as well, but they didn't seem to care. It was either that or they hadn't noticed. They were busy chatting to one and other. Talking about what brought them here, and who they wanted to be. Then (Y/N)'s stomach growled. It must have been a while since she had last eaten.

The two men looked to their companion in confusion before both breaking out into giggles like little children. (Y/N) looked down, trying to hide her embarrassment when Faron shook his head and walked over to one of the vending machines. Not 5 minuets later, he walked back over to his group and handed a banana flavored snack bar to the still flustered girl. She took it and basically inhaled the thing, before giving the blond haired man a genuine smile. He nodded before looking away, trying to hide the pink color that was slowly growing across his cheeks.

Shortly after, another blond stepped out and onto what appeared to be a stage.

          (Your POV)

I never personally liked bananas. I would eat them if I was hungry, and didn't feel like making anything else, but bananas just aren't my thing. That's why when I bit into a banana flavored snack bar, I was taken aback. It wasn't bad, I just didn't expect it. After giving Faron a thank you in the form of a smile, someone stepped into our room. He says his name is Lero-Ro, and that he is the next test administrator. He explains about how the shinsu goes up in density the further you climb, and that this is just to prove that you can take it.

Something resembling a blue wave shoves my teammates towards me, only for me to go flying back with them. It doesn't really hurt, but Kieron helps me to my feet. The man on the stage explains that this test is simply to have all three of your partners make it through the newly formed wall of shinsu. Immediately after he's cut off. The brown haired boy that I had seen earlier in the death match is already inside the dense shinsu. Or as he makes it apparent, he was never pushed out at all. I'm a little surprised but I guess I figured something was odd about him before. I recognize his voice too, but I can't seem to place where I've heard it.

Lero-Ro makes it clear that because he was never pushed out, he has already passed. That's not very fair... I thought. I don't dwell on that for long though as my teammates are now shooting glances between each other and then to me. They really think I can't get through that? I'm honestly a little offended. On a whim to prove to them that I can absolutely handle shinsu, I lift a finger and form a little bubble of it for them before immediately popping it. I shoot them a glare before turning to the wall of shinsu.

I walk towards it, assuming my team would follow, but they didn't. Whatever. They could stay on that side of the wall for as long as they needed, as long as they made it through before time ran out. I passed through the wall with ease, and sat down on the ground in front of the stairs to the stage. I studied the brown haired boy, as well as Lero-Ro, trying to listen into their conversation. Suddenly I feel a hand placed down on my shoulder, causing me to jump. I was so lost in thought that I hadn't seen or heard this person coming. I tilt my head back, rather than trying to pull a 180 like an owl.

The one from the Khun family stands behind me. Was he a part of the brown haired kid's team? That was confirmed in a matter of moments as he spoke, never moving his hand away from my shoulder.

"My teammate is certainly an interesting one. You are too. I saw you in the death match using a thorn, but you used shinsu just now. What's that about..?"

The question took me aback. Was he watching me? That's really creepy, but whatever. He's a member of the 10 families, so I don't want to piss him off. I answer the best I can.

"uh... Just some skills I picked up I guess."

The Khun brought his face closer to mine. Too close. It made me uncomfortable, but I didn't move. He only studied my distaste at him being so close. What the hell is wrong with this guy? He backed off as I asked myself this, pulling his hand away from my shoulder, and standing up. He held his hand out to me, and I couldn't tell if he was offering to help me stand, or to shake mine. Even so, I took it. His hand was calloused. That's when I noticed the knife at his side. No wonder.

He helped me to my feet and shook my hand, introducing himself as Aguero Agnes Khun. I decided to just call him Khun. What a long and interesting name though.

"Nice to meet you Mr. Khun. I'm (F/N) (L/N)." I tried to sound confident, but the way he looked at me made me want to shrink back. It was like he was sizing me up. Preparing to kill me if he had to. It was terrifying.

I gulped, and he let go. He turned his back to me and walked to his teammate. That's when I noticed the giant lizard standing close by. They must have formed a team. The thought of that was terrifying. After all, the least threatening had a weapon that could obviously kill me in one fell swoop. I can only hope that he doesn't entirely know how to use it.

An aura of danger passed by me then, as a short girl with green skin and a tail passed by me. That was when I decided to stay on everyone's good side. Everyone here is basically terrifying and although I have strong teammates, I'm worried.

          (Khun's POV)

That girl was certainly something. (Y/N), she said her name was. She gave off a similar vibe to Bam, but she was obviously stronger. Someone I might have to look out for in the future. As I approached Bam with Rak in toe, my mind kept jumping back to that dangerous aura. She was watching us during the death match, and if she would have joined in on our fight I fear she could have done some serious damage. Even if it wouldn't have killed us, I could tell she was a force to be reckoned with.

I left her shaken up obviously, and I can only hope that was enough to keep her from trying anything. Maybe if we're lucky, we can work with her in the future.

          (3rd POV)

As (Y/N) sat in a daze over what happened, her two teammates are talking. Something about it being odd to have used shinsu without a medium, or tool. Maybe she had already formed a contract though. They couldn't be sure. With that though, the three of them had gone back to chatting about whatever they were talking about before the 3rd test on this floor.

          (A/N)

Hai reader-chan! sorry for the gap in posts, but I'll try to stick with a regular posting schedule soon. I'm thinking every weekend? That being said, it will probably end up being at odd hours every time, and it might switch between Saturdays and Sundays. Either way, you can probably look forward to that. Also, A NEW POV! I know that's probably not super exciting for you, but that just means I've moved forward in the story. Yay me!
