You taught me
That nothing is promised
That no one is promised
And that the only person I can completely trust is me.
You taught me
Never to trust people with my secrets
Because when push comes to shove
They'll use it against me.
And that manipulative people
Will always be manipulative.
You taught me
Not to be too much in a hurry to give my all
And to only give as much as I receive
Is that selfish or is that self love
I guess I'll never know.
But this was the best lesson of all.
You taught me
That some people are capable of true love
And that if I can let go of my fears and doubts
Some things can actually be as good as they seem.
