Review:
This tenderhearted story tells how a young guy called Benny helps a young girl named Vio as she struggles with bullying due to her mutism. I love how strong this couple is and how they help each other no matter what.
Rather than Vio being portrayed as a weakling and Benny coming to the rescue, they often work together to face challenges. He supports her. In this way he's both a good friend and a good boyfriend.
I love the development in both of their characters. Vio begins to learn to speak, they grow as a couple, and they face the bullies together. It's lovely to read a feelgood story in these troublesome times.
If I had one critique, it's that while Benny says he doesn't just love Vio because of her mutism, we only see him love her appearance and a bit of her soft heart. It would have been nice to see a few sections where we see what else draws him to her and her to him beyond the surface. Maybe a skill? A common interest? Intelligence? A hobby? Perhaps I missed it, but that would have given the characters more depth.
Still, I enjoyed it immensely. The micro chapters means you can binge read this in a good half an hour. Perfect for people on the go or after a long day when you need a pick-me-up.
