Chapter 33- Last II

Jeremiah made it to the hospital. He saw his brothers sitting on the front line. He ran up to them in complete distress to hear what had really happened.

"What's going on? Where's Mom? What's wrong with her?" he asked, all in one go.

"We don't know, man. She didn't feel well the past two days and we told her that we would bring her to the doctor but she said it's fine and we shouldn't worry. We didn't because she was her usual self, nothing out of the way. Now today, she was in the kitchen preparing sumn' and she started coughing like crazy, holding her chest and then she just collapsed. We brought her here. We could've called you sooner but we couldn't think straight. " Nick explained.

Jeremiah held his head and took a deep breath.

"There's no news yet? At all?"

The boys shook their head, no.

"Okay. It'll be fine. Come on, let's sit."

Sam was preparing to pack up some stuff and leave. Her mom & dad had left, leaving her and Sanoi. He didn't want to leave her in the house by herself, even though Sam kept telling him that's the normal because she lived alone this whole time.

She called Jeremiah and his phone went straight to voicemail. It grew her concerns because the only time he wouldn't pick up the phone is when something went left. She wondered what could it be now.

"He still isn't answering?" Sanoi voiced.

"No. I don't know why. I'm worried now."

She decided to call the house. Brenda, the helper and baby sitter, answered the phone. Brenda was the silent master of the house. She kept everything under control when they couldn't. She isn't seen much but she is there.

: Brenda? Is Miah there?
Brenda: No. Thought you guys would be back by now.
: We'll be back soon.

"He isn't at home. Where the hell is his dumb ass?" Sam paced.

Sanoi chuckled and steadied Sam.

"I'm sure he's fine. You want me to bring you there or you're staying here?"

"There. I want to see Riley."

"You may as well call that lil girl yours. You downright act like her momma."

Sam smiled, got her stuff and was ready to head out. On their way to the car, Jeremiah called.

: Hello? Jeremiah, what's wrong with you? Why haven't you been answering my calls?
Jeremiah: I'm sorry, Riyah. I'm at the hospital. It was a rush.
: Hospital? For what? Are you okay?
Jeremiah: I'm okay. It's my mom. She had collapsed and been rushed here.
: Oh. That's unfortunate.
Jeremiah: I know you don't like her but a little more sympathy is fine.

His tone was laced in anger.

: I wasn't thinking like that Miah. I hope she will be fine. Okay, Sanoi is going to bring me to the house anyway.
Jeremiah: That's out of his way. Come to the hospital.
: No. He's fine with bringing me.
Jeremiah: You just don't want to be here because it's my mom.
: Why are you thinking like that?! Someone needs to be at the house. Brenda has to go and Riley can't stay there by herself.
Jeremiah: Excuses.
: What? I'm not about to have this dumb argument with you on the phone. It's your mom. You're at the hospital. That's all that's needed.
Jeremiah: Exactly, I'm here. I want you here.
: No. I'll see you at home.
