SNOWBLAST POV
I stayed up all night long, listening, and keeping watch. I read through the book I found in the nightstand drawer, periodically checked on Cassie to make sure she was still doing okay and listened to the cars coming and going past the hotel's parking lot, the occasional honk echoing through the mostly quiet city.
But mostly, I was trying to keep myself occupied because I was in too much pain to sleep.
Something had definitely been knocked out of place back there when I'd hit the cage bars. My insides were all throbbing and sending me messages of pain, but I'd done a diagnostic and it all came back normal. How could I be in so much pain if everything was in order?
Still, as long as I could stand it, I would keep pushing on. I'd promised Cassie I would get her home, and I was going to keep that promise. I'd have Da check me out when we got back to the island. Besides, I'd need to refuel eventually, and the sooner we got home, the better.
I'd snagged a map from downstairs as soon as the lobby was open, and was studying it when Cassie stirred once more. I looked over as she rolled over, her squinting eyes peering through the darkness at me. "Good morning."
"Hi..." she whispered before giving a groan as she tried to sit up a little bit more, "...What time is it...?"
"Almost seven... I can go downstairs and get you some coffee if you want."
"Nah...I don't drink coffee..."
She looked down and then snatched the clothes I'd gotten her from the nightstand. "Give me a second."
I returned my attention to the map while she ducked under the thick comforter and got dressed. The pen in my hand tapped on the paper as I overlooked our position and the others I had circled, calculating distance. ...Looks like that's our best bet for now.
"Okay..."
I looked over as Cassie got up completely, the shorts fitting fine but the t-shirt was just a little too short due to her unusual height. "...That'll have to do for now. How do I look?"
"Fine." I admitted with a slight grin, "Sorry, I'm not very good at calculating what humans count as stylish."
She gave me a grin, "That's fine... What's the plan?"
"Step one...We need to get back over into the US."
"Right..." Cassie took a seat again, "We're out of the country... Any ideas on how to get past the Mounties?"
"Well, most people don't make it over the border because they're on foot. I, on the other hand, don't need to be on foot."
I saw her eyes lighten, "You could just fly us all the way back to the island?"
"Well, I don't think I could make it that far on one tank. But I do have a plan, we just need to get far enough across the border, and then we'll be free to move about as we please."
"As long as we're making progress. Hopefully, we can get a hold of our families today."
"Right... But first, let's get you some breakfast."

CASSIE POV
The border was closer than I was expecting.
I insisted on taking a shower before we left, but then the two of us left the motel and stopped at the donut place next door, and I ate my bismark and chocolate milk in relative silence. Snowblast sat across from me at the table, his disguise's hood up, and his head tilted down a little. He seemed a little uncomfortable being out in the open like this, but nobody gave us a second glance as we sat in the relatively empty store.
