"I think he likes you" Niall whispers, coming way closer than he usually would. The sickening cold radiating from him making me shiver.
"He's watching you like a hawk" he continues. I shrug it off. Knowing Niall, he blabbers nonsense all the time. But last night after we made up after our no nonsense fight, he let me sleep. I deserved my sleep and he somehow understood that out of all the things. Bless him for that and curse him for the rest.
"He's still looking" Niall whispers.
"Piss off" I mutter. Josh out of all the people would not notice me so much. I have that much commonsense which Niall definitely lacks. He speaks before he thinks. He probably speaks too much because he himself adores his accent. His accent attracts me, too. But he shouldn't know that. Today, was very hectic. Only the first half of classes have passed and I'm already tired. I stroll to the cafeteria and Niall whistles as he walks by me. I grab my tray and the usual I prefer to take. Sandwich, apple and milk.
"Those cookies look good" Niall points.
"Do you want them?" I ask.
"Unfortunately, I can't eat them but if you do. It's the same thing" he smiles.
"What?" I mutter, confused.
"We are physically connected. Well, as you are completely aware that I'm just a wanderer, a soul; I do not have a body of my own. Therefore, what you physically feel, I do too" he smiles again. I give him a terrorized look. Physically connected? This is bad.
"God dammit" I say.
"Is something wrong?" A girl asks who stands besides me as we collect our food.
"Uh... no" I give her a forced smile and grab the cookies before I walk off. I see Josh wave at me. I smile and walk to their table. Jenna is already seated next to Nate. Am I missing something? And it looks like he's comforting her.
"Ugh that Josh boy, again" Niall smirks.
"I'll talk with you about the physical connection later" I tell him.
"Physical connection? That somehow sounded wrong. Physical hmm?" He gave me one of the most devilish grin.
"Ewww" I say and walk towards the table.
"Jenna? You don't look okay" I say as I take the empty seat next to Josh.
"George and I broke up" she bursts into tears.
"Boring. Same old sh*t different day" Niall says as he leans against my chair. I ignore him.
"I'm so sorry" I don't really know what to tell Jenna, at this situation.
"What George and I had, I thought was love. He was cheating on me all this time" she hiccups.
"Oh."
"With Amanda" Jenna completes.
Josh spits out his drink onto the ground, "That girl. Can't hate her more."
"Honestly, Amanda?" I say.
"And in the end of the day, bow down to the hot chick" Niall says in the background. I can't help but mentally snap his neck and throw him into a fire. I hear him chuckle at my annoyance.
"Is it cold or what?" Josh says, looking at me.
"Guess, I'm too cool" Niall whistles. "See you later, baby" he winks at me and walks through the wall.
"Maybe" I say as the cold suddenly vanishes.
"That's weird. The climatic fluctuations" Josh says as the temperature around normalizes. Niall, you're gonna get caught.
"Hey, it's alright. You'll find someone better" Nate tells Jenna. I know what you mean, Nate. I do.
"Hey, there's this party at Jace's house. Wanna join us?" Josh asks.
"Um. I don't know."
"It'll make Jenna feel better" Josh smiles. That smile, dammit.
"Alright, then" I say.
-------
"Are we emotionally connected too?" I ask as I skim my wardrobe and Niall lays on my bed watching me.
"No. We're physically connected because I don't have a body of my own but I sure have a mind. A person might be dead, but his soul and his mind remains" he smiles.
"Okay" I say and let his words absorb. "So you mean, what my body feels or go through, you will too? It's almost like sharing a body? That's what you mean?" I try to confirm.
"You're a smart girl. You should know" he says, uninterested. "Let me guess? That Josh guy asked you on a date?"
"Pfft. No. It's a party" I tell him.
"And you're going because?" He queries.
"To cheer up Jenna."
"That one. She's a good girl, makes wrong choices. Ends up getting hurt" he squints his eyes.
"How can you tell?"
"I read people" he says coolly. I choose a simple black dress with beads and a pair of wedges. Not something I'd wear daily. I feel completely out of range. I comb out my mid length brown hair.
"You look nice" Niall comments.
"Thank you."
"I think, your phone's ringing" he alerts.
I pick it up, "We're waiting outside." Jenna's voice rings through the line.
I rush downstairs.
When will you let your eyes lay on me? When will you let your beautiful heart collide with my broken one?
