Headcannon I found on Instagram and decided to write into a one shot

Nico's Camp Leader

NO MIST

The demigod son of Hades was fucking tired. He was tired of the campers always following him around and asking stupid questions like because you're Dad is Hades can you make someone die with the snap of your fingers? Or can you turn invisible because of the force of the Underworld

He just wanted a nap

Nico was never cut out to be a leader -- Whose idea was it to let him run the camp anyway? But it was decided that because he was a demigod son of the Big Three and because he had gone through both wars he would be the next leader of camp after Percy and Annabeth left to go to college in New Rome

So he reluctantly stepped into the role of being camp leader and had to put up with the million of questions he would get and the little kids that were excited for the son of the God of the Underworld to teach them how to hold a sword, it wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so useless and had to go to see Will on multiple occasions for different injures and Nico wanted to bang his head against a wall when he remembers the young son of Aphrodite who nearly lost an eye during his first training sessions

He would have much rather just played Mytho magic

Luckily though today was one of his few days off and he planned to go visit Percy and Annabeth in New Rome, he really needed a break from Camp and he knew his cousin was struggling with collage so it seemed like a win-win situation and since Will was out of town at a doctors convention it would keep his mind of missing the blonde haired son of Apollo

Shadow travelling to New Rome was a lot was easier than it had been when he was younger, he had managed to improve on his powers a lot and Hades had figured out a way for him to use them without turning into a shadow so he didn't have to worry about the guilt for lying to his doctor about where he had gone like he had before

Walking up the steps to his cousin's and his girlfriend's apartment Nico let a rare but genuine smile befall his lips -- he needed this break, he couldn't deal with the campers constantly looking up to him like he was something to be idolised when he couldn't even remember to take showers every few days and Will constantly had to remind the demigod son of Hades

He hesitates for a second deciding whether or not to knock but after a short moment he just decides to walk in anyway after all he doubted Percy minded anyway

"Kelp head!" Nico shouted "I'm here"

"In here" Came a muffled reply

Nico followed his cousins voice and found himself in a room that he assumed was the living room as there was two large slightly marked leather sofas pushed up against the wall and a small TV set in the corner going on from the living room was the kitchen that looked more like a kitchenette than anything

"Hey man glad your here" Percy tells the younger boy from his position on the sofa and one of his arms wrapped around a half asleep Annabeth who was snuggled in a mountain of blankets after falling asleep watching a movie

"I'm never thought I say this but boy am I glad to see your face" Nico laughs dryly "I don't think I could handle another day watching new campers injure themselves because they did something I specifically told them not to do!"

Percy chuckled "Yeah, you get used to that"

"But I don't want to" Nico whined the shadows creeping into the middle of the room in his unintentional anger but with a quick pat on the shoulder from the green eyed demigod he calmed down and the shadows faded away as Nico continued "You have no idea what it is like having kids ask you a million questions a day when you just want to sleep or play cards but you can't because their constantly coming up to you asking about stories of your heroic quests"

Percy smirked and bemusement fell upon his features and rage sparked in Nico's belly and he was about to raise the dead on his older cousin for thinking that his pain was so funny, when he came here because he thought Percy would be able to connect to his pain and give him some advice on how to move forward but instead the son of a gorgan is laughing but his anger quickly diminished when Percy asked him a simple question "Neeks do you remember what you were like with me when you first came to Camp?"

The son of Hades cheeks heated up as embarrassment took the place of his anger as he remembered what he was like the first few days of him coming to camp and the way he would always ask Percy a million and one questions while the two of them played cards in the Poseidon cabin or down by the beach 

"I was one of them wasn't I?" Nico groaned in dismay 

Percy nods slowly "Unfortunately you were but you grew up to be a great leader and a great friend and I'm sure if you can control the urge to raise the undead of some of these new campers and you let them ask the questions that seem never ending they'll want to prove themselves to you and the rest of Camp so they'll train harder and eventually the questions should become less and less and maybe in time you'll have the next most powerful demigod on your hands"

Nico smirked a little "Thank you Percy I guess I just thought I wasn't ready to be a leader"

Percy wrapped his shoulders around his little cousin "I wouldn't have recommended you to take my place if I didn't think you were ready for it"

Forgot that Percy was going to get killed by the undead "You did what?"

"What? Never mind bye" Percy squeaked before he took off running
