It was six months after the whole Mild-Puifai ordeal and everything was going well for the two men. Mew's mother had insisted that they live at the mansion forever since the house was always empty with Mandy always away for her tours. She didn't want to be left alone and she was quite old. They agreed and both males emptied their condos. The building itself held a painful past for both and they didnt want to come back again.
They were eating dinner together cracking jokes with Mew's mother and Mandy, on one weekend.
"so are you two going to get married before I die or i should just follow my husband and watch from above?" she asked pointing at Mew and Gulf.
"Mae," Mandy screamed, "you can't say that to your kids."
"The oldest should get married first," Mew said looking at Mandy and Gulf only nodded his head in agreement.
"hey you can't nod your head to that. Do you not want to get married?" Mandy asked Gulf who was torn between which side to take.
"what are you even waiting for?" Mew asked his sister.
"I dont know, can't I just live my life without pressure of societal expectations?"
"Am I a society?" Their mother asked in a duh voice.
They all laughed, "I just want to hold a grandbaby so I'll have stories to tell my husband," she said in a low pitiful voice.
"I'll think about it mae," Mandy finished and they discussed other things.
Later that night, Gulf was with Mew in their room. They had been given the master room of the house because they needed it. It was huge and it had been remodelled to suit the taste of the two.
"would you like to get married?" Mew asked as he came to sit on the bed hugging Gulf.
"what type of a question is that?" Gulf asked not sure how to reply.
"I would like to marry you. I know we don't need it but I want to be able to call you my husband, Wear a ring on my finger and show off to the nation when I'm doing press conferences. I want the whole marriage life and a honeymoon too. I want to experience all that with you. Please marry me."
He finished playing with Gulf's ring finger.
"p' are you proposing?"
"and if i am will you say yes?"
"i thought that was obvious,"
"say it."
"yes, I would like to get married," Gulf finished looking at Mew and all of a sudden he felt something cold on his finger. He looked down and saw a ring fitting perfectly on his finger. He laughed in disbelief, "when did you get this?"
"its a secret." Mew kissed Gulf's shoulder.
"I love it," Gulf gushed at his perfect looking hand, decorated with a wedding band.
"I love you so much Nong, I love you so damn much i dont know what I would do if i ever lose you again. " Gulf could feel the desperation in Mew's voice.
"and i love you more."
Mew shook his head,
"you wouldn't know what that means."
"oh yeah?"
"yes"
"then i love p' as much as he loves me."
Mew shook his head again,
"still you wouldn't know what that means."
"then i love you to the moon and back."
"I'll accept that."
Mew was right. Gulf didnt know the depth of Mew's love for him. The man obsessed over him for crying out loud.
He remembered when Mild disappeared. He accepted it. He had seen it coming. He was disappointed, hurt and betrayed, YES, but that was all. He hadn't expected Mild to leave like that without an explanation or at least closure. They never heard from Mild after his disappearance. He vanished from their lives as if he was never there.
Mew was an Obsessive-Love -Disorder patient but his focus was never Mild. It had been Gulf from the beginning. And Mild leaving had unlocked some insecurities to his obsession.
The week after Mild left, what Mew had been afraid of was losing Gulf.
Mild leaving somewhat reminded him of how it was easy for people to just leave. He was afraid if Gulf left him too, he would be broken and there would be no recovery.
He embarked on a mission the whole week he had been disheveled, trying to figure out what he could do to make Gulf stay. He had been afraid. Terrified even. Only Gulf mattered to him. It had haunted him, he wouldn't eat or sleep. Whenever he saw Gulf, he would imagine him leaving too and it didn't sit well with him.
He had manipulated the situation to figure out where Gulf stand.
He had to know.
The day he wanted Gulf to leave was a test to see if his worries would come true. He wanted to see what Gulf would do. He wanted to confirm if Gulf would leave too. He wasn't sure there would be another encounter after everything they had been through.
He got his answer and he was more than content with it too. Gulf had bared his heart and Mew had seen what he wanted to see. Gulf crying and clinging to him was more than he had bargained for. A sight that calmed his O-L-D heart from its insecurities.
The night he broke down, he had been relieved. He let go of his fears and accepted that Gulf would never leave him nomatter what.
The journey was painful, full of betrayals, confusion, manipulation, disappointments and near death experience but it had been worth it. If it meant being with Gulf at the end he would go through it again without batting an eye.
Thats how much he loved Gulf and surely Gulf wouldn't understand what 'i love you more' would mean.
