Chapter 1 ~ The Train Ride

You had got bored of the businesses of London and craved your home town of Kembleford. You had been out of university for a year, doing a doctrine in Theology and had started writing historical non fiction but found it hard to write with the noise.

Two weeks ago you decided to do something, writing a letter to your uncle Father Brown to ask if you could stay with him to find a house. Your uncle agreed so it lead you to now, sitting on a train, travelling to Kembleford.

You where looking out of a window as a man walked in, he flashed you a smile

'do you mind? Everywhere else is full' the man asks.

You nod and he sits opposite you.

'I'm Tom' he says, sticking his hand out.

You shake it as he flashes you another another smile.

'Hi, Im (y/n)' you say smiling back.

'So, where are you stopping at?' you ask

'Kembleford' he says 'I'm the inspector there'

'Ooh, Im going to Kembleford too' you say 'I'm finding a house, I'm a writer'.

'have you got a place to stay?' he asks kindly

'Yeah I do' you reply 'thank you though'

He smiles.

You start talking with him about random things and you grow closer.

The Train stops with a scweek and he gets up, 'This is Kembleford' he says smiling.

'Oh, yes, thanks' you say, not realising. You get up and grab your bag.

'I will hopefully see you around (y/n)' he says, flashing his cheeky smile one's more.

'I'm sure you will inspector' you reply laughing.

He tips his hat at you and walks towards the exit. As soon as he walked away and jumped out the train you where engulfed in a hug from your uncle.

'Good to see you (y/n)' Father brown says letting you go.

'and you too uncle' you reply beaming. 'oh and ms Mccarthy, good to see you again'

'and you too' she said delighted. 'now we need to get back quick, I have a whole afternoon tea laid out for your arrival'

'Oh Ms Mccarthy you shouldn't have' you say, remembering how good her cooking was.

'Now now, it's always important to have a treat'.

You walk out following the two, not getting the handsome inspector out of your mind.
