AurorasPOV!

I was heading to the hospital to meet Matt and get a ride home, I know I could have just walked home but I needed to see him. Tonight had been brutal and I needed him to calm me down and make me feel better because that’s what Matt did for me, he made everything better. I was just about near the main entrance when Matt and Elenas voices had caught my attention.

MattsPOV!

“How are you dealing with everything?” Elena asked me. “I mean you keep getting dragged into all this?”

“Honestly, uh I'm kinda lucky… the only thing that I have to worry about tomorrow is showing up for my shift at The grill”.

“What about Aurora? Are things going good?” Elena asked concerned.

“Yeah things are great actually, she just seems to have a lot going on right now, stuff that I don’t really know about”. I answered.

“What do you mean?” Elena asked.

“I just mean that with all her dad stuff starting to happen, I don't really know how things are going to turn out for us…” I replied honestly because I could always be honest with Elena. She wasn't just my first love, she was my best friend and someone I could always turn to.

“Does that scare you? That she might leave with Elijah? Or turn her back on your when she meets him?”

“I can't picture her not here … you know…?” I said with a fake grin and Elena noticed I wasn't saying something.

“What, what is it?” she giggled and teased.

“I love her … I do, but I just never imagined my life to be this way you know…I don't know what to think of it” I said to Elena and she nodded in understanding.

“Well thank you… for everything today, really” Elena said to me.

“Get home safe” I told her and I turned to start walking to my truck and Aurora was standing by it, and she didn't look happy.

“Hey…” I said unsure of how to approach her.

“Hey.” Was all she said. I knew she was upset, she had a crease in her forehead she always got when he was flooded with emotions and overthinking.

“Look, what I said with Elena… It's just me venting to a friend”

“Venting. Nice word choice Matt.” She scoffed.

“What do you want me to do, she's my best friend and she asked, so I told her the truth”

“Why don't you tell me the truth …. Why don’t you tell me how you have mixed feelings about being with me, right now Matt. Tell me”

“Come on Aurora..”

“No … I don't know what else to do. I'm trying Matt, I really am… but I can't change what I am for you and even if I could, I wouldn't.” she spoke and I watched every emotion take place and come through. When she spokeshe vibrated with feelings and let them take over her, she always had. She welcomed emotions and she felt everything. Its something I loved about her, depsite what she was she enjoyed her emotions, she held onto them.

“Look, theres just a lot happening right now … I think its best if we take a step back. You can figure out your stuff with Elijah and I can focus on work and school and … just take a breather” I saw her face drop when I finished that sentenced. I watched her hear it and the words settle in and her reaction made me wish I could take it back. She was holding back tears, something I have never seen another vampire do.
