gabe's pov

and i remember the fear in your eyes the very first time we snuck into the city pool
late december with my heart in my chest and the clouds of my breath, didn't know where we were runnin' to
but don't look back

"What if we get caught?"

"We won't."

I inspect the gate's height. I should be able to lift William up and over, if he'll even let me.

"I think we can get in if I just lift you over the gate and have you unlock it from there," I suggest to Bill, but he just stares at me like I killed his family or something. It's not a bad idea. For the most part.

"What if I fall and hurt myself?"

"You won't! You're tall and skinny, you'll land fine. You literally said you wanted to go swimming, and so I took you here. Don't be a baby."

His look softens but he still seems relatively annoyed. He's so cute when he's upset with me.

"I guess," he says slowly, and turns back towards the gate.

"Okay, try not to drop me, please, I like this jacket and I'm not about to ruin it."

I roll my eyes in response, and come up right behind him.

I put both of my hands on the sides of his waist, and I hear him exhale, and shiver a little. He's making such a big deal out of this.

I wrap my arms around him completely  and begin to lift him, having a little trouble. He's so skinny yet so heavy. I don't understand.

I hear Bill squeak, and then the gate rattle. I try my best to suppress a laugh.

"You good?" I ask and he replies with a strangled 'mhmm'.

I let go when he starts to swing his legs over the top of the gate, and back up.

He drops down after a couple of seconds of struggling, and when I look at his face, he's grinning.

"I did it!" He cheers, and I pull on the lock to the gate.

"You can have your celebration later, now unlock the damn thing!"

"Fine, don't be so bossy Gabe,"

"I know you love it," I wink, and I hear him scoff. Even though it's dark out, I can tell he's blushing. I might be too.

After the gate is unlocked, I haul ass towards the pool.

"You're not going in with your clothes on, are you?" William asks, annoyingly. Yes, I will go in with my wallet and keys and phone. God.

"No, I'm going in my boxers," I say, and begin to undress.

"Are you?" I mock when he just stands there, hand on his arm like he's nervous.

"Um, yeah," He mumbles, and I shrug.

I turn away as he takes off his clothes, and finish removing mine.

"Ready yet?" I question William and turn back, and he's already finished with his clothing in a pile beside his feet.

"Sure," He mutters, looking like he's about to freeze to death. I could spot the goosebumps on his ghost white skin from a mile away.
