Lily had spent the morning pacing her hotel room as she waited to be picked up by Michael. Today was the first day of justice and the wheels would start moving. As she paced, trying her hardest to swallow the nerves bubbling up in her throat she remembered the receipt that was buried in her dress pocket. The receipt had gone everywhere with Lily, burning through her clothes and she tried to remember all the good things her 'parents' had provided her.
A stable home
Schooling
Food in her stomach
Lessons of all kinds
Love
It was a hard line to toe as she tried to do what was best for her emotional attachment to the people that had raised her but she also reminded herself that just because they loved her didn't make the betrayal any easier. What would the love of her real mother and father felt like?
A knock interrupted her thoughts and she sighed. As she opened the door to Michael she wondered if they where doing the right thing. Then she realised that the police wouldn't take her accusations seriously so she had no choice but to turn to the peaky blinders.
"You need to stop coming to my room like this, people will start to talk" Lily said as she wrapped herself up in her coat.
Michael smirked as he held the door open for her "Let them, it's none of their concern what we do"
Lily liked Michael but he was very different from her, he had his life figured out and a new family to lean on.
"Are you ready for today?" He asked her as they took the stairs together.
Lily bit her lip before answering "I'm ready for justice" was all she said.
----"You can't go bloody dressed like that!" Arthur bellowed as he walked into the Shelby living room, eyeing her up and walking around her.
Lilys cheeks flushed with hot embarrassment "What's wrong with what I'm wearing Arthur?"
Polly was the first to take Lily's hands "Love, you don't fit in. You look to.....put together" and Polly motioned towards her hair before pulling it out and letting it loose.
Lilly didn't understand what was so wrong with how she looked, this was how ladies where supposed to look. As she looked over to Tommy in hopes that he would provide a resolution she sighed when she didn't find it. Tommy was also regarding her outfit choice with annoyance.
Tommy cleared his throat "Get her in one of Ada's dresses, she looks about the same size" and Lily watched as his eye's traveled down her body. Polly without hesitation began to pull Lily up the stairs and into a small room.
Before she could contest to wearing someone elses clothes Polly had shoved a dress in her hand and demanded that she change. As Polly turned her back Lily huffed in frustration.
It very much felt like when her mother would force her to change into a dress that she liked rather than what Lily wanted.
Lily didn't like the feel of the dress on her skin nor the revealing nature of its short hem but she refused to whine about it. Afraid that she would irritate the Shelby's further.
Lily coughed and Polly turned around quickly.
"Better. Now put on some lipstick and lets get going"
Lily was sulking as she slipped on her coat, trying desperately to hide away in the material. The dress she was wearing did nothing for her confidence.
