Chapter 9: The Affinity Test

It was already five years since I came to the capital. Father was constantly in the capital to help and be Prince Hyde's guardian. He will come back to the dukedom every three weeks of the month. Mother and Sir Owens, father's aide, runs the Dukedom in father's stead.  

I am now 8 years old and have been studying under Sir Blaire's tutelage. Except for Etiquette and Embroidery classes, he took the role of being my teacher in all aspects that he knew of. Five years past, I became accustomed to this world already. Sir Blaire and I spent years studying for the Unknown Class and the Black Hair Demon trait as well as trying to communicate with the fairies at the mansion's large garden.

 There's progress from these things that slowly made leaps and bounds... maybe because of my own intelligence that came from my past life that made it all possible to happen fast and the combined efforts of Sir Blaire and I. The magic institute is still compiling our research and studies before releasing a public copy for the mass.

 Today, Mother, Nanny, and Sir Blaire will accompany me to the Capital to look at my affinity with magic. We already did this testing method inside the mansion but the outside world hasn't known about it. The publicity of my powers could bring forth either a miracle or disaster or maybe both. I look outside the window and stared at the passing people and carriages, my mind lost in thought.

"The Capital of the Geon Kingdom... seems to be busy and prospering,"- I said and look back, meeting everyone's eyes.

"It seems so, Young Miss,"- Nanny said to me with a smile.

"The Duke and the Crown Prince did a splendid job for the past five years."- Sir Blare said with a hum.

"Do you want to meet your father and cousin after this, my angel?"- Mother asked me with a kind smile. I nodded before turning my head to look at the outside. We are all heading to the Cathedral that is located at the center of the kingdom. Today is an official day for children from five-ten years old to go inside the cathedral and know their affinities. From commoners to nobles, they line up starting from morning to afternoon to get their children the affinity test. Since the population of the Geon Kingdom is over five hundred thousand, and one-fourth of this population are children, this affinity test will be done for three days. When we arrived at the gates of the Cathedral, we saw a lot of parents and children line up from both sides of the walls.

"My... to think that it will still be crowded for the second day as well... There is no end to it, isn't it?"- I said as I stepped out of the carriage and stared at the long winding line of the crowd.

"It's the same every three days, but  I wonder why you didn't agree to go on the first day of the affinity test?"- Sir Blaire asked me as I held my mother's awaiting hand.

"Its because the Royalty and the nobles from high ranks will definitely come first and do the round of bragging. Although it does look fun to watch, I do not want them to try to have a verbal fight with my mother. You do know the reason yes, Sir Blaire?"- I look up and arched a brow at him. He cleared his throat and nodded, dropping the subject.

Because I have the unknown class type of magic, it will further catch everyone's attention, hate, and envy that could not only infuriate my protective parents but also exhaust them. As much as possible I do want to prevent that. 

"Uhm..."- Sir Blaire and I look at the direction where the voice came from and it was Mother.

SFX:*gulp*

"You two talk as if I am not here, why? Am I just air?"- Mother asked us with a calm and scary smile on her lips.  Sir Blaire and I look at each other before looking away.

"W-We don't know what you are talking about, Mother."- I said before awkwardly looking away.

"Indeed, we were talking about something else,"- Sir Blaire said while looking away with a similar look as I do. From the peripheral vision of mine, Mother is seriously irked at us- playfully tho.
