The sun was shining bright as a cool breeze passed by. A little boy was sitting on the grass leaning against a tree, clutching his knees, on the outskirt of the park as he watched different people pass him by. Kids his age were running around, laughing while they tried everything on the playground.

The dark hoodie he wore over his head protected him from the rest of the world. A few times people would either stop to watch him or ask if he was alright. He would simply nod at them saying his dad would be here in a few minutes. At least he hoped he would.

His father had dropped him off at the park telling him to wait here until he came to get him and that he was not to return home alone. That was four hours ago.

He didn't understand what was happening or why his parents had started to argue, or why they didn't want him at home right now. His mother had just given birth to the newest member of their family and he was happy. He loved his little brother. He had always wanted someone to take care of.

By now he was feeling down as tears started to form in his eyes. What was wrong with him? Why didn't his father come for him like he said he would? Why did they leave him here?

"Hey, are you okay?"

He looked up, about to tell whoever it was to leave him alone when he froze.

A little girl who looked about his age was staring down at him. She had the warmest set of blue-green eyes he had ever seen with. Her black hair that was pulled into a high ponytail was a big contrast to the bright smile on her round face. She was wearing a neon yellow sundress and flats. He decided that she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen.

"I‐I'm okay," he answered weakly wiping his eyes.

The girl frowned at him. "You don't look okay to me."

He didn't answer her and just looked down. A second later he felt someone sit beside him and a hand pet his head. He turned to look at the girl. "What are you doing?" he asked confused.

The girl didn't answer him, instead, she frowned even more before removing her hand and looking away. He just stared at the girl in confusion. He didn't understand what she was trying to do.

When she finally turned to look at him again she asked, "How do you comfort someone?"

He stared at her in shock before his lips started to twitch and he burst out laughing when he realized she was serious.

"Why are you laughing? I'm serious!" she said annoyed as she threw her hands up.

"I...I...I know," he said in between laughs holding his stomach while his hood fell. The girl huffed before standing up about to walk away. "W-wait!" he called to her. "Where are you going?" he asked reaching out to her.

She turned around to look at him. "Your laughing, I think you're okay and don't need my comfort," she said crossing her arms.

"Yes, I do," he replied stubbornly. He didn't want her to leave yet.

"No, you don't!"

"Yes, I do!"

The two stared at each other intently before the girl sighed and sat down again while he grinned in triumphant before he asked her to be his friend. Without looking at him she asked, "Do you like lemon ice cream?"

"What?" he looked at her confused.

She turned to look at him seriously. "Do you like lemon ice cream? Because if you don't then I won't stay. If you don't like lemon ice cream then I can't be your friend."
