Chizuru started to stir from her long sleep and hugged." Y/n I'm so glad you are safe she said tears of relief escaping her eyes." Let me see your neck."

"all healed, see." she huffed in relief.

Hijikata came in the room his violet eyes hard and focused justly like that first night.

"I've head Y/n side of the story now Chizuru what was your side."

"I thought Sanan San's arm would get better with some medicines so I came out and fetched by the time I came Sanan San was getting ready to ingest it. The medicine. It makes people stronger but it destroys their wills. Did my father really create such a thing. "

My eyes widened at this information but the doctor has always been such a kindly man.

"True kondou San was involved with the development of the medicine but he vanished before completing it. Those who taken the medicine  before were beyond help when exposed to blood."

My mind flashed again those insane crisom eyes that white hair that had once connered me and Chizuru.

" Only the top commanders of the Shinsegumi know of this secret but now you two found it out."i heard a frightened gasp from Chizuru but I kept my posture high." Any unsettling behaviour from either of you and both of them will be terminated. As no one would bat an eye at your sudden disappearance. "

" Understood Hijikata San eventhough to you our lives may be dispensible we shall keep it in mind but I will not hold back from protecting myself or my sister." he huffed lowly his hand on the handle." I'm glad that we are both clear. On where we stand." he paused at the door and kept walking away.

Chizuru turned to ward me with pleading eyes." Did you really have to be so hostile towards him Y/n."

"Ruru I do not take threats to our lives lightly. I don't care who it is if anyone tries to hurt you I'll protect you even from our friends."

"They wouldn't do that y/n."

"really what about Sanan San. He put your life in danger when he drank that poison with you in the room. He could've killed you Chizuru."

She looked down at the floor.

"Now the Vice commander is threatening our lives a situation which was practically facilitated by his fellow comrade I'm just saying be suspicious they don't trust but in return we shouldn't put our lives in their hands ." I saw tears starting to well up in her eyes as I looked over the door.

"We cannot tell them about our healing abilities or about my stregnth. Especially that Sanan San." I looked Chizuru again understanding plaseterd on her face. " Okay Y/n" I gave her a quiet hug before pushing our Tatami mats close.

"I love you sister." I said face to face our fingers in a interlocked.

The next morning was eerie as we waited for news about Sanan San they explained how his condition was. All we had was just Inoue San saying he looked normal which is a bit of relief. I do still feel pissed that he put Chizuru's life at risk like he did.

6 months later

The shinsegumi had moved its headquaters to one of the choshu headquaters. Thanks to the wide and vast perimeter they were able to successfully hide the fact that Sanan San wasn't dead as he was declared so he can further his research into the medicine further.

Not long after Heisuke returned from Edo with no trace from the doctor. With him around things felt like it was finally going back to normal.

Okita San and I were on Patrol and we did. The usual stretch of the perimeter. He was coughing a bit more than usual.

"Souji are you okay it sounds like you have a bit of cough"

"Dont worry Y/n it's just arlickiling of my throat I'm sure it's nothing." I gave him a sidelong look he's been having this cough for a couple weeks now. He turned his green eyes toward the other patrol unit."Oh look its your sister" we turned to find Heisuke waving at us. " and she's with another girl dressed as a man."

I elbowed him in the ribs. "You're mean."
He chuckled in response.

We walked with him. " I bet things will become a whole lot busirer when the shogun arrive."

"yeah even kondou San is on edge." Heisuke replied to Okita San.

A number of coughs left Okita's throat causing him to kneel. Our regimine took a screaming halt. I crouched to eye level. " Okita San are you sure it's just a tickle of your throat."

"Yes." his eyes darted to ward a scene of  two drucken perverted nationalist trying to take advantage of this poor girl he qucklt stood up and hurried over looking at them with a menacing smirk and a hand in his sword. The two 'men' hurried l off. I giggled at the two scurrying off.

The girl Okita San had saved had a very striking resemblance to Chizuru they were practically identical.

She bowed at Okita San and introduced herself."My name is Kaoru Mogami." she said with a graceful bow. I couldn't help but be in subtle awe of her kimono and head wear it's been so long since I've been exposed to something feminine.

He turned toward me with his usual mocking grin." are you sure you and Chizuru are the sisters in this situation."

"well if you knew anything Okita San You would remember how I'm actually adopted." the girls eyes landed on me like they were assessing me for something.

"you're very pretty." she said. I couldn't help but be bashful by the rare compliment.

"thank you"

"No need I was just staring a fact." she liked between me and Chizuru. " It as lovely meeting the both of you. I shall take my leave. But I will think of a suntible thank you for you Okita san" she bowed deeply and took a leave.

"hey Souji I think she likes you."

"If that it was that looke like to you Heisuke you will never beat Sano."

I turned toward Chizuru. "She seemed rather nice. I'm so jealous I wish I had a secret twin."

"you never know what could be out there."

"Oh well all the family I need is you."

"and I you."
