"There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater.

But sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life."

-Veronica Roth

When I was younger, I was taught that love was pointless... At least, that's what my mother always said.

But then, as I grew older, I allowed myself to hope. To dream that maybe I'd find someone who didn't look at me in the same way my father had looked at my mother; as though she were a pest, an annoying pest he couldn't get rid of.

And then my hope was crushed when I met him.

What a fool I was. To him, I was worse than a pest. To him, I was like an irremovable stain.

But somehow, he managed to work his way under my skin, and I had done the same.

He didn't need me.

Unless, it was I who needed him.
