It seemed that night I wasn't the only one staying awake late into the night. I could hear Pap in his room moving many objects around. There was also a lot of clattering. I grabbed my headband where the Flicker-fire was sleeping against the glass of the jar. I peek around the door to find that Papyrus had left his dinner outside his door. I wish I knew what was bothering him, but I must worry about keeping the night terrors at bay for now. A moment later I had made it outside and to the garden. The Flicker-fire woke up and was spitting at me again, but I didn't even bother to translate it through. I knelt in the garden after carrying a couple of bags of soil to where I wanted them. I opened them and spent a couple of hours layering the soil to protect all of the plant's delicate roots. After that, I picked up some things that were lying all over the yard. I guess I'm pretty lucky Papyrus insisted on taking the upstairs room that didn't have a window. I don't know how I'd explain this to him. Heh... it's kind of funny that after the fiasco with Flowey and Pap dad had forgotten all about talking to me about the night terrors. Another thing to be grateful for I suppose. I don't know why, but Grillby's calm demeanor and voice just makes him easier to talk to. Dad's always super stressed about something and it makes him seem distracted all the time. Besides, the last thing he needs is his son just piling more worries on his shoulders. I put the wheelbarrow away and peek over our three-quarter fence. In the Flicker-fire's light, I could see Doggo's house. Their yard was in absolute shambles. Their young daughter, Daliah, was always leaving her toys all over the place. I go over and wonder if this is a good idea for a moment before I start to pick up the toys. I sigh a while later, wishing I had a watch. I don't know what time it is. I go back over to our yard and release the Flicker-fire under the Ebony plant.
Papyrus' view:
I slipped back into my room after taping the note onto Sans' door. I feel so awful for taking out my frustration on him. Just because I didn't get what I wanted, I had to act like a stupid baby-bones in front of my brother. I'll have to make it up to him tomorrow. After all, my plan is in place. Undyne will have to accept my efforts. I sigh as I do a flip across my room to my bed. Agile, quick, and smart! She'll have to train the great Papyrus! I'll just see her... in the morning. *yawn*
Gaster's view:
Another long night. At least it's only a couple more before I announce the news. How will the boys take it? It was only a matter of time of course. After Flowey... you just never know when the worst could happen. *Chuckle* We're all calling him by his nickname now. I walk into the living room and past the kitchen into the adjacent bedroom. After all, with no proof of a surface world, even after ten years, there's just no point in studying it any longer. I do hope that Dr. Alphys will be able to make a breakthrough where I could not. Maybe what project Ascend needs is a new pair of eyes. Asgore has cleared my retirement, all I need now is to clear Dr. Alphys in all of my files and clean out my workspace. Wow... has it really been twenty-five years? And I'm finally retiring. I hope the boys won't mind me staying around the house all day. I've missed so much of their life already because of work. I'll make it up to them, my 🕈︎✋︎☹︎👎︎ ☞︎☹︎⚐︎🕈︎☜︎☼︎.
*** 3 days later***
Grillby's view:
*sigh* It's almost done. I just can't seem to get the taste right. I add a few more drops of strawberry extract to the steaming concoction. I've been testing the new sleeping pills on myself these last few nights, but not only do dreams still break through occasionally but the pill leaves a taste similar to that of ash in my mouth. The steam turns the palest of pinks as liquid ebbs and flows through the tubes around the basement. A ding sounds from my pocket and my hand dives for my phone. It's Dr. Alphys? What does she want? "Hey, Grillby! Good news! Dr. Gaster has announced that he's retiring. We're all getting together to give him a retirement party. He totally deserves one after twenty-five years of service. Would you come? I'm sure he's expecting you to be there, being his best friend and all. Oh gosh, I'm so nervous! I'm going to be the next head scientist. Oh, gee... We'll see you there right?" What? Gaster... is retiring? Without telling me? Huh... okay then. "I'll be there" I respond to the text. I rush back upstairs. Of course I'll be there! I've always supported Gaster. He most certainly deserves this. I'm sure the boys will be thrilled.
??? view:
Heheheh. Dear Dr. Gaster. Retiring? My, my, that is interesting. It certainly makes my Master's task for me easier. Offing a Head Scientist will be much simpler once he isn't surrounded by his walls and friends. Ahh, I suppose I ought to reclear it with Master. Master might like only the current Head Scientist dealt with. Though I doubt it. Master has hated Mr. Wing Ding Gaster since the beginning. Hahaha! I must go see Master later tonight.
