The Scorch Trials Hints/Ideas in The Maze Runner Directors' Commentary

The Cranks are hopefully gonna be really creepy.
They want to track the wooden totem that Chuck made as it goes between different characters across the movie saga.
They want to explore the impulsive nature of Thomas in the future movies.
They're going to really get a chance to do some stuff with Teresa's character which is why she remained mysterious in 'The Maze Runner'.
They won't be doing the traditional love story/triangle, but they'll go down that path a bit.
They're planning for the The Scorch Trials to be massive, about 2 or 3 times the scale of The Maze Runner.
It'll be much deeper and more mature, and they talked to James Dashner about the potential changes they'll be making away from the book.
In the scene when the Gladers choose Gally or Thomas, Gally is outnumbered, so they said it'd be fun if in one of the future sequels Thomas would be outnumbered.
They want to keep characters such as Minho, Newt, Aris, etc as main characters rather than side characters with Thomas on a journey.
There'll be a ton of real location use in The Scorch Trials.
The crank shown at the end of The Maze Runner isn't even a fraction of what they have planned for that concept.
They'll be doing more with Ava Paige in the next two movies.
Gally survived the spear impaling him and it will be important later.
The ending of The Maze Runner book will be put into the first act of The Scorch Trials.
Chuck's death as 'blood on his hands' will influence what Thomas does throughout the rest of the trials.
