Nico and Bianca had just been retrieved, everything was a bit scattered due to the sudden arrival. The Hephaestus crew mates were furious at the destruction of the damaged pod. It was quickly whisked away for damage control.
Despite what the repair crew said, I think they were secretly happy to make revisions.
Next came the siblings, Percy made sure to give them a crash course on demigods and mythical beings. Annabeth was in charge of filling them on the rest.
We weren't sure who's offspring they were, but Grover sensed something powerful. I approached Bianca first, she was heavily injured from their encounters. A quick hymm to mend her bones, and a cast to help. Plus, a bottle of mysterious liquid to speed up the process.
What was in the bottle is a secret, a family remedy.
Nico was more reluctant than Bianca. His knee was very bloodied, due to a deep scrape. He swung his legs over the cot he rested at. I was kneeling down, inspecting the wound.
"How much are you in pain?" I asked, cautiously.
"A lot obviously." he deadpanned.
Standing up I go to gather supplies. "Are you injured anywhere else?"
"No."
I take gauze, bandages, ointment, and sodium chloride to clean the abrasion. Pausing, I also grab a bottle of water. "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
I frown and cup his face with my right hand. Using my other hand I delicately brush over his scalp. He winces and jerks away when I touch a large bump on his head.
"You might've gotten a concussion." I scold. Applying more pressure onto the knot, I inspect it closely. There was no bleeding, so nothing had been cut.
"How did you hit your head?" I continued.
"Why should I tell you?" he grumbled.
"So I can heal you of course," I replied.
"You.. you can do that?"
"I'm a child of Apollo. God of prophecy, medicine, music, and so much more. It looks pretty good on a resume."
Nico falls silent for a bit, "The monster smacked me against a wall. This was after I injured my knee. "
"Are you really a son of Apollo?"
"Yeah..I've never seen my old man though." After determining that the bump wasn't serious, I kneel down to patch up the scrape. Spraying the abrasion with sodium chloride, I dab away the blood. Nico winces, but doesn't pull away.
I smile, "You'll be good as new." Making sure the wound was clean, I apply a generous amount of ointment and rub it over the wound. Finally, I fold the gauze over the wound and bandage it.
Nico swings his leg and stands up.
"You're not done yet," I intercept. Gently lowering him back down onto the cot, I put both hands on his head.
Humming, my hands begin to glow. The swelling begins to reduce until the bump is little larger than thumb. Nico looks startled, but the pain begins to fade away.
"It's not completely better. Put some ice on it," I instruct.
"Ice? What good is ice gonna do?"
"It reducing swelling by cooling your.. er. It reduces swelling, and it feels nice as a bonus." I explain.
"Wait, can I grab something?" Nico says suddenly.
"I have to get your ice, so be back by then."
He dashes out of the room the moment I turn my back. After fetching the ice, I return. To my surprise, Nico was waiting for me at the cot.
"I wanted to give you this!"
I'm startled back to the present when Annabeth enters the infirmary.
"I thought you'd be here," she greets.
"Looks like you thought right," I turn over the figurine and look it over. Mortal representation of my father always intrigued me. Nothing was ever truly accurate, but something felt off.
"You probably want to know the outcome of the meeting," she continued.
"I'm surprised there even was an outcome."
"I'm thinking that your going to chase after Nico regardless of what the outcome is."
"Again, your thinking is on the dot."
I sigh and set the figure down. "Do you think it's a dumb idea?"
She pulls up a chair and sits down opposite of me. "Even dumb ideas can produce good results. I should know, plenty of my plans had seemed too ridiculous to pull off. But Percy and I.."
"Percy's still alive you know."
"How can you say that? We all saw him.. vanish."
"Healer's intuition," I joked, "But in all seriousness. Think back to when Percy's mom was 'killed' They both disappeared in a flash of golden light."
"And as it turned out.. she was just being held captive by Hades!" Annabeth concluded.
"Bingo. I'm honestly surprised you didn't figure this out sooner."
"So am I.. but that's besides the point. We've all decided that your idea was the best one."
"I think you mean, only one."
"However, we've made a few changes. We split up three ways, one group will go after the Labyrinth, another will contact the ISC, and the last will remain here."
"What about searching for Percy and Nico?"
"We.. we still need permission from the ISC."
"What?! They'll have to make due with whatever we do! The Ghost King is as big of a problem for them as well as us. Surely, the situation calls for a pass."
"It's only going to take three weeks to reach the station."
"Three weeks for Nico to set whatever his plan is into action, and bomb more planets! Why can't we contact them through comm links?"
"We have. But they won't accept any propositions without a prophecy. We need to go convince them in person."
"This is blasphemy."
"Blasphemy is our entire existence. You'll have to sit tight in the meantime, Nico will be brought to reason." Annabeth said.
"Yeah, I'm sure he will."
"You're planning to run off on your own. Aren't you, Will? You're never going to make it without the help of others."
"Don't you have some other business to attend to?"
She stops before saying. "Be rational, Will."
Annabeth left the room, leaving me alone once again. Soon, other nurses began to trickle in for their shift.
I look at the figure once more, before leaving the room as well.
