A steady stream of people walk by as I head towards my destination. As I neared, the temperature started to rise, and the flow of people increased.
Originally, I had planned to sneak into the docking bay down below, but with the crowd of people, it's no longer possible. Someone would notice, and I would soon be captured before I could learn the controls.
Hephaestus's children usually work on maintenance of the ship. They are quite literally the glue that keeps the vessel intact. Today they seem to be in disarray. People were bustling frantically, sweeping their gaze around in search of something.
I catch someone by the shoulder as they move past, "What's all the rush?"
He turned around, it was Christopher. "We've lost something mildly concerning."
"Is it going to effect the status of the mission?"
Christopher grimaced, "Possibly."
"What is lost?"
He pulls up his watch, which broadcasted a hologram of a small object. He enlarges it, as it spins slowly to show every detail.
"It's a.. screw. Cylindrical, hollow, and has ridges. Made of a firm steel," Christopher explained. "It'd be nice if you keep your eyes peeled."
"I'll do my best, but no promises," I say. Suddenly a girl runs down the hall and grabs Christopher.
"Why are you just standing there talking? We've located the the rivet! It's out in spaaceee." she groans.
"How'd it get outside the ship?!" Christopher exclaims before taking off with his companion.
I stand with my mouth agape for a moment before following the two into the engine room. Dim red bulbs were the only source light, giving the area an eerie feeling. People were gathered around one area, desperately holding together two plates on the engine.
"Can't you just replace the thing with another one?" I yell over the chaos.
"If we could, we wouldn't be panicking right now, would we?" someone else screams back.
"Shiiiiiiittt!" curses someone holding together the engine.
"Have you located the position of the rivet?" I ask.
"It's a couple yards outside the ship, and it's about to entire deep space! We need to get it back now!" the girl who had informed Christopher answered.
"Why don't you just send somebody after it?" I shout back.
The room suddenly fell silent. The commotion of people running around, the dissonance, and the din came to a halt.
"Why didn't we think of that sooner?" Christopher broke the silence and heads towards me. "I'll join you on a pod ship, and we'll depart temporarily."
"I've transferred the current location of the rivet to your watches. Leave it it Christopher to punch them in and man the ship. You two will board pod armamini, our newest model. It has a lengthy crane claw for you to grab the rivet once located. Good luck."
"Wha? Wait- when did I agree to this?" I stutter as people swarmed around me, already suiting me up.
"You don't ever agree to anything around these parts," Christopher quirked.
I remained shell shocked as they finished preparing us two and whisked me to the hangar. Pod armamini was a small blue spherical pod. It had a sleek design with gold accents. Small legs kept the ship grounded.
"This baby is our newest wonder. It's got a retractable arm that extends up to five feet! The wings are folded when the ship is docked, but expands when we take flight, making for compact parking. The ship itself it fairly spacious, enough room for two people up front and a little bit of legroom in the back just for storage. But don't worry! If you needed to spend the night; lets pray that we don't; the chairs are recliners!" our guide rattled off the many pros of the small ship.
"You sound like an advertisement, Elina. We need to get going, the rivet is probably drifting away as we speak." Christopher chided. He moved towards the vehicle and pressed a little triangle on the side, the symbol delta, while holding up his wrist. A triangular beam scanned the watch and a hatch on the side hissed open.
The inside had an equally as sleek design. A light flickered on once the door opened. The two seats in the front were a dull blue, and the monitor in front of it looked complex. I studied the steering wheel and a little gearshift. The tinted glass front window made the pod incredibly modern looking.
Christopher motioned for me to climb inside. He entered after I settled down. The moment we settled our watches pinged.
"This is mission command to the searching branch! Do you copy?" they spoke at the same time, a hologram of Elina popped up.
Christopher tapped his watch and his image appeared on the hologram as well, "You're right outside, only contact us for urgent purposes. Like if the tracker blinked out."
"I'm testing the comm links. That is important!" she replied.
He clicked his watch off and I did the same.
"Where's the tracker on the ship?" I asked him, nonchalantly.
"Oh it's a little knob stuck to the back of the wall, why?" Christopher answered.
"Nothing. Just curious."
"Strap in, Will. We're taking off." my watch buzzed. I followed their example and observed the mechanisms.
"This baby has top speeds even the Olympus can't reach. The great thing about pods is that they can jump around freely. But we should only need to travel a couple yards." Christopher noticed my interest and began to explain features again.
"It's modeled after cars, which have these steering wheels." he gestured to the device.
He stuck the gearshift into the top slot and pressed a triangle shaped button. The pod rumbled to life. Sliding up some notches and pressing down on a brake, we began to move forward.
Our entourage had moved out of the docking bay, as the hangar opened. Christopher levied us into the air, and shot out into space.
"Good luck!" our watches chimed.

A bit of a filler, but Will needs a break.
I think I accidentally published chapter ten? Whoops, I've taken it down now. Yes, I have small stock of already written chapters, simply cause I like to feel ahead. School has started now so I, as well as many other authors, probably won't have as much time to write. Sorry for the delay!
