"Looks nice." Anne attempted to be optimistic as she pulled into the parking lot of the new school. It was definitely a downgrade from Earl Grey but she didn't want her son to resent the place even more so by stating that.
Harry merely nodded, eyes stuck on the screen of his phone as he participated in his texting conversation with Liam. He was still angry at Harry for getting himself expelled in the first place but the feeling of missing his best friend was much stronger. The two seemed to have left on a bad note which made the distance that much more of a problem for Harry. He hated conflict.
"Well come on honey, it's time." Anne urged, running a hand through his untamed curls encouragingly. He hadn't even bothered fixing them this morning as he was in his evident mood.
Harry sighed, locking his phone and staring at the not so great building ahead of him, "I don't wanna go here, I liked my college before."
Earl Grey was a privilege to attend. Your grades had to have been remarkably high and your record had to be clear. How Cameron managed to get accepted was a mystery, but everyone knew how he managed to get kicked out. Along with Harry, who was mostly innocent in the situation, but still punished.
Anne shrugged, mentally pouting at her son's uneasiness, but having to be firm with him. "Well maybe you should've thought about that before you got involved with that Cameron boy. There's always consequences Harry."
Her words only made Harry crabbier so he waited for her to be done grabbing his things before exiting the car.
For many seconds he continued to sit and stare ahead, eyes burning imaginary flames upon the building. His mum knocked with urgency on his window, to which he groaned. He unbuckled and dragged himself sluggishly from the car.
He grabbed his book bag and suitcase with a grumpy face and despite the situation Anne couldn't help but laugh."Harry, sweetheart," she chuckled, "you're acting like you're five and its your first day of school again. Cheer up, yeah? Things could be better here."
Harry pursed his lips, not wanting to give in to what his mum was saying simply because he knew better.
There were going to be so many responsibilities, he had to catch up with the curriculum which was already in full swing, get to know the area which he'd never been to in his life, and try and make some decent friends. It all seemed like a lot of work, but for his mum's sake, considering she probably hated this just as much as he did, he forced a smile.
"You're right." He nodded, letting out a sigh and walking into her arms desperately.
Anne offered a wide grin, hugging Harry and squeezing tight.
"Call me if you need me, I'm only forty five minutes away." She reminded, tousling his curls once more.He nodded, pulling back and planting a sweet peck to her cheek. "I love you mum, see you on thanksgiving."
Anne's eyes twinkled with delight, "Love you too Harry, and yes, I will cook all of your favourite things and we'll invite Liam and his family, how does that sound?"
A real smile found its way to Harry's previously gloom face, "Sounds great. I'll just have to look forward to that to get me through these first few weeks."
"That's the spirit, now be good." Anne waved a warning finger at Harry as he crossed the street.
He held his arm up and gave her a thumbs up, along with his signature smirk. She laughed to herself and waved once more, watching him wheel his heavy suitcase into the front door.
