Sam's POV
“I don't know what to say.”
Devon sighs and I feel like I’ve already disappointed him like everyone else in my life. I finally had a shot at having a friend and I’ve already fucked it up.
“I have to go” I say trying to break the awkwardness. I start to open the truck door when he starts to talk again.
“I’m sorry, Sam”
“Why are you sorry? You didn’t do anything wrong.” I ask curiously.
“I barley know you and I just told you all of this stuff and you probably think I’m some crazy stalker.”
I stay quiet for a minute and he stairs and me with his big blue eyes.
“I don't know you and I don’t even know if I should trust you”
“I'm sorry” He apologizes again.
“Stop saying sorry” I repeat what he said to me earlier.
He laughs “Okay”
“Do you think maybe I could get to know you?” Devon asks and my heart begins to race.
“Maybe..”
“I think I should get going now” I say realizing that I’ve been sitting in his car in my drive way for 5 minutes now, if not longer.
“Can I have your number before you go?”
I hesitate before giving the stranger my number.
I write it down on a napkin that was in the cup holder of his truck and it to him, he shoves it in his front pocket.
“Goodnight” I say and open the car door and jump down almost falling because I hadn’t realized how far high up his truck was compared to my moms small 2 door Honda.
I walk up to my trailer door and one thing that I notice is that Devon hasn’t drove away yet. I unlock the door with my key and walk in to the small living room. I hear Devon's truck pull out of the drive way I can't believe he waited to make sure I got inside. It was probably just a cover up, so I would think he was nice. It didn’t mean anything. I need to stop falling for everything he does.
I walk through my small kitchen and I don’t see any food, so I go straight to my bedroom. My mom isn’t home and I have no clue where she is. Before I left for the dance she told me her car broke down and she made me ride my penny board to the dance. And her car isn’t in the drive way so I guess she lied to me. Again. MY PENNY BOARD. I must have left it in Devon's truck. I grab my phone to text him but quickly realize that he has my number I don’t have his. I was planing on avoid him for the rest of the weekend but I have to get my board back its my only transportation.
I lay on my bed and think. My mind is racing with thoughts. From Devon, to my mom lying to me again, to how I'm going to get my board back. I start to dose off when I hear my phone vibrate. I jump up and pick my phone up off my nightstand. Its a text from an unknown number. I swiftly unlock my iphone and read the message:
“I have your board, wanna meet up tomorrow and ill give it to you?”
No, I don't really wanna meet up, but I have no choice I have to get the board back. So I reply to the text:
“okay where and what time?” I send the text.
Shit, I have no way to get anywhere, and even if my mom shows up I can't have her take me because she'll ask 100 questions and I don’t want to tell her about any of this.
My phone vibrates again.
“idk its up to you I'm free all day tomorrow”
I don’t know what to say. I have no way to get anywhere other than walking, and there’s no where close we can meet.
“You have my only transportation”
I turn on my new Ed Sheeran album while I wait for a reply. 2 songs go by before my phone vibrates again.
“I'll meet you at your house tomorrow at 11am”
I don’t want him back at my house especially because I don’t know when my mom will be back again. But I don’t want to tell him no, especially because I'm the on being difficult.
“Okay see you then”
I plug my phone in and go back and lay in bed. My phone vibrates one last time and I think about ignoring it, but I need to set an alarm anyways.
“Goodnight beautiful”
My heart once again begins to beat out of my chest. I shouldn’t feel this way about someone I barely know. When my dad left me and my mom I promised myself I would never trust or love another man. Devon is just here trying to make me break my promise to myself and I cant let him.
I set an alarm for 9am and plug my phone into the charger, turn my light off and go to bed dreading of tomorrow...
