Once upon a time, long ago, there was a girl and a boy. both of them were sixteen, and the love they had for each other was so deep that it seemed to give the flowers that grew around their resting place life even centuries after their deaths.
how did they die? its a tragic story really.
they were forbidden from loving one another. if their secret was found out, their family's would be disgusted by their love. the world was so bitter towards young love back then. they used claim that anyone under 25 didnt know what love felt like, that they were too naive to understand such a complex feeling.
and yet these two teenagers made it work in such a hate filled world.
the girl? she was the mayors daughter. the mayor of a town named Amour. she had everything she could ask for, even the option to be wed to any man or woman she pleases that was located in their citys limits.
when she reaches the age of 25.
she hated this rule. she despised it with every fiber of her being. some nights she would scream at her father, begging for the rule to be broken just for her. but all he could say was, "oh dear, i am simply a mayor, i can't change the laws of love,"
now you may be asking, why would she want this rule changed? can't she just wait like the rest of the world?
well, she couldn't. she was dying, not expected to live past 23. there was no treatment for her rare condition, so her father had tried to give her a comfortable life.
but even this comfortable life couldn't stop the fear she had in her heart. it crept inside her, more hurtful than any disease, more infectious than any fever. it clouded her every judgement and was always whispering to her as she laid awake at night.
"you're going to die alone and unloved, my dear,"
she was losing her ability to feel in her fingers. it was the first sign of the final stages. it was going through her body a lot faster than any doctors had predicted.
she knew she wasn't going to make it past her 18th birthday. that realization shook her to her core, causing her to break down one summer evening. the sun was setting and the air was thick, her tears adding to the humidity.
her tears are what pulled him to her.
the gardeners helper, her son to be exact. she happened to be working later one night and asked her son to walk around the luxurious house to retrieve a shovel. a shovel that was placed under the young girls window.
he heard her cries and ran to help, knowing he wouldn't be able to live with himself if the mayors sick daughter had died or was harmed when he could have helped.
he hadn't expected to see her simply crying tears of regret, regret that she hadn't done so much more in her younger years.
he bit his lip, looking up at her window. her head was resting on the sill, face down as her body shook with sobs. this was his first time seeing her, she was usually forced to stay inside due to her illness.
he gave a tug at the vines that grew along the house, checking if they were sturdy. when he discovered they were, he dropped all his tools and began climbing.
he didnt know why he had decided to climb up instead of calling out, but before he could change his decision, he was right underneath her.
"um, miss?" he asked politely, climbing up beside her, resting his hands on the windowsill. she jumped, sitting up almost immediately. she looked at him and let out a light scream, slamming the window on his finger tips.
