Sophie POV

Darkness.

Pain.

Fear.

Guilt.

These feelings rammed themselves around in Sophie's head as she yelled, internally screaming from her mind. She couldn't feel a thing. She couldn't wake up. Wake up you stupid body. WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP!

Suddenly a gentle breeze entered her mind, clearing all the rage, anger, fear, and pain away. Then, a gentle voice sounded in front of her. "Foster? You there?"

"Keefe?" Sophie whispered into the darkness.

"Yes! Woah you scared all of us you know. We thought you were permanently unconscious for a day!" Keefe whooped and a bright image of his face shined in front of her. "Come on, let's bring you back where you can get yelled at by a variety of people because Fitzy can't hold on much longer."

Not wanting to strain her Cognate's willpower to far, Sophie took Keefe's hand and stepped into the light. A moment later, her eyes fluttered open to real light, with Elwin's hands flashing orbs of light over her.

"You're awake!" Biana screamed from beside her, suddenly appearing from thin air. Fitz muttered something about Vanishers as Biana immediately wrapped Sophie in a hug. Sophie felt good as she was in the arms of her friends again.

"So... what happened?" Sophie strained to remember what happened at the battle, but all she remembered was the Everblaze suddenly roaring in front of all of them. And then a wave of weariness washed over her as if somebody forced that feeling into her. But that could only be the work of an Inflictor, and she and Bronte were the only Inflictors in the entire Elvin world.

Tam sighed and quickly explained what happened in the last battle with the Neverseen. "We spotted Lady Gisela, Vespera, Ruy, and Gethen trekking up the mountain and attacked them on one of the mountain ledges. Ruy shielded them immediately with a force field and Maruca did the same for us. I gathered the shadowflux I stored and released them towards the forcefields since Umber's arrows penetrate through the Psionipaths' force fields. But strangely, the arrows were not responding to me as they suddenly froze mid-air. I tried to grab ahold of them, but they were... shifting. As if they found a new master, worthy of their support."

"That was pure terrifying when I saw Tam lose control of the shadowflux and I thought he was doing something wrong. I expected the arrows to come straight for us, but they allowed themselves to sink into the ground." Linh said as she made a tiny water model of what happened as she spoke.

"It was beyond all of our understanding of Shades why Tam lost control of the shadowflux." Lady Zillah spoke as she entered the door. "Unless his theory was right, and the Neverseen gained an ally Shade who can control shadowflux."

"And then the strangest thing happened," Marella said as she allowed two orbs of warm flames in her hand to flicker before she snuffed them out. "Balefire suddenly lit the grass and the whole field was in flames. It obviously wasn't me because Fintan hasn't taught me how to control or ignite balefire yet, so it must be the work of another Pyrokinetic. I managed to snuff the Balefire with all the energy I could muster before Everblaze lit the grass where I just snuffed out the Balefire. I told Linh to drown the flames but she can't probably because it was Everblaze. Thankfully Maruca shielded me with a force field and I was able to get away."

Maruca shook her head in disappointment even though she had just been praised. "I still can't shield you from the heat, though. Maybe I need to talk to my Psionipath mentor later."

Sophie slowly processed all the information that the friends said before she asked a crucial question. "Did you ever see anyone who ignited the flames?"

The responses were filled with 'no's and the Everblaze was too thick so I couldn't see. Sophie sighed as she suddenly remembered the eyes she saw in the flames, peeking at her. Keefe noticed the doubt scribbled across her face and asked if she was okay. Truth was, she is not. "But could there be anyone with violet or turquoise eyes?"

Her friends looked at her as if she just spilled her guts up. "That's not possible, Miss Foster," Mr.Forkle said as he moved into her view. "Elves only have blue eyes and you're the only special case we know. As far as I've heard, no creature in this world has purple eyes. Turquoise, however, might be possible considering your friends Fitz and Biana have teal eyes and turquoise is a relatively close shade to teal."

"Does that mean the Neverseen has a new Pyrokinetic and a Shade?" The thought seemed overwhelming enough to knock her back to the depths where Keefe and Fitz found her, deep in her mind.

"In theory, yes," Mr.Forkle said. "You kids have possibly seen some new enemies that probably poses a bigger threat to us, the Black Swan, and the Lost Cities. Perhaps even the entire world. I will ask Oralie to start monitoring all the Pyrokinetics again. We might also get some records of what this Pyrokinetic and Shade might be."

Well, that didn't exactly calm Sophie down. She wanted to spring out of bed immediately and find whoever tried to hurt her friends. "Breathe, Foster." Keefe patted her, motioning her to sit down. "We will find whoever it was that tried to hurt us, and track them down until they're in prison."

Keefe's word seemed promising, but the fact of that member's existence that when that member had been born, his existence was already concealed, or if he was disguised as someone in the Lost Cities, in some dark corner they haven't bothered to check at all.

"Interesting." Keefe suddenly said as if he just pieced everything together somehow. "Let's go find this boy because I believe that we're going to win!" He said as he pumped his fists in the air and Grady muttered something about "That Boy".

Dex and Fitz managed to agree with Keefe somehow as Tam slowly smiled. Biana, Linh, and Marella were somewhat doubtful but confident at Keefe's statement. Sophie, on the other hand, is very worried about everything as an idea formed in her head. What if...

"Sophie, are you okay?" Fitz suddenly said as Sophie began to breathe again. Her mind was completely in the process of being shattered at her theory.

"I was thinking... if this 'Pyrokinetic/Shade had not been within our knowledge, that means that they were from the Neverseen from the beginning. Like...when they were born." Sophie stopped as her friends sucked in a breath of horror.

"If I'm right, the turquoise and purple eyes... there might be a Neverseen's version of Project Moonlark after all."
