“Where's Eren?” Levi asked when Armin came back in, blushing and grinning while holding Petra's hand.
“Haven't seen him, why?” the blond looking confused. Mikasa came up.
“He's not outside. His stuff is in your truck, but there’s something you need to see.” She was almost out of breath, something very unusual for her. Levi ran. Pain gripped his chest, the knife in the bed of roses flashing in his mind as he ran to his truck. He froze when he saw it.
Written in dark red, drying liquid was two words, Hello Captain. His blood running cold he stared at the cover of his truck. An anger deeper and darker than anything he ever felt was opening in him. It rose like a Phoenix and he shouted out, throat growing raw as he screamed out. “KENNY!!!!”
“Is that…” Armin stopped when he realized the message was written in his best friends blood.
“Petra take them…”
“Where going with y…”
“Like hel…”
“He's our friend t…” Levi and Mikasa argued without letting the other finish a sentence.
“You're wasting time, let's go!” Armin ordered shoving Levi toward the driver side of the truck. Mikasa followed quickly. While the pair argued he had told Petra to leave. They piled into Levi's truck.
“What are we up against?” he asked.
“The guy who raised and trained me. Plus the people I was looking after where his first. I doubt I have any on my side.” Reaching out he hit a button on his phone.
“Hey calling with good news I….” A voice began.
“Shut up!” Levi barked. “He's back and he has Eren!” He nearly shouted.
“Meet me at the crag.” The phone clicked off. Levi punched the steering wheel.
“He fucking warned me!” he cried. Reaching under the seat, where the box of flowers and knife had been shoved, Levi felt around until his fingers found the handle of the knife. He pulled it out.
“What is that?” Mikasa asked.
“The knife I used to make my first kill. It will be the one I use to murder that basturd.” He had stopped screaming. Now he was even scarier as he spoke in a deep dark calm. They didn’t talk as they drove into the night.
Levi's phone rang. A number came up as unidentifiable. He punched it.
“He just went in to the cove, he has something over his shoulder. Levi, tell me it isn’t that kid!” the voice pleaded. “I’m sorry Pixus, I never…” Levi stopped. “No, that isn’t right. I knew he would do this. I just deluded myself that I could have something I wanted. Something he couldn’t taint or take from me!”
“You're not alone. Let me send help. Where are you meeting Smith?” the voice asked.
“The crag at willow bay.” He said.
“I have a few calls to make." Once more the phone went dead. The silence filled the cab as they drove on. The highway was left behind ten minutes later. The road became a dirt path pitted and rotted the truck bounced along. They stopped just before driving into the ocean.
Levi got out with the others following. A man a good foot taller than the small teenager stepped into the light from the open door. “I could call a SWATT team, but I don’t want to have to arrest you.” He said.
“I am the only one he will let in there. I need your brains, Erwin.” Levi's thin shoulders shook. “He took him.” He whispered, pain anger and fear mingled in those words.
