Jean showed up just as they finished their first original song that Eren had written. He climbed out of his Camaro, walking up to the band.
“You guys are sounding hot!” He cried. “I have some news for you.” He added a little sheepishly.
“What did you do?” Mikasa demanded.
“Well.” He ran his hand through his hair. “I was calling the places we had booked this month to let them know we had a new singer and to cancel as we got him up to par.” He paused.
“And?” Mikasa urged him.
“Well, Fast Fat Freddy told me he wasn’t canceling since it took him so long to get us in there. He demanded we play. The catch is.”
“He isn’t going to pay us?” Eren guessed.
“Not exactly. You see, you will have to play for the door since he isn’t sure you can still bring the crowd you typically bring in.” he gave them a weak smirk.
“That's fine.” Levi stated. “I can tell some friends to show up.” He offered.
“You mean intimidate the hell out of the lower grades until they agree to come?” Mikasa asked. Levi smirked around his tea.
“Ah, look you know me so well.” He taunted.
“When are we playing?” Armin asked. Jean gave a scared little chuckle. He peeked his eyes around the band.
“Uh, this Friday!” He said.
“Like in three days!” Eren cried.
“We will just have to do mostly covers.” Levi suggested in his board tone. Mikasa stared at him.
“By the way what is the name of this band?” he asked. Armin pointed to the front of Eren's bass drum. A crest was there on a green background. A silver shield shape was painted behind feathers, blue on the left and white on the right.
“The Wings of freedom.” Armin answered. Levi raked his eyes over the drum, then raised them to the drummer. Eren looked ticked at the thought of the gig.
“Alright let’s get back to practice, now we have a shorter termed goal.” Levi took charge. He picked up the set list marking a red slash beside the songs he didn't know and a green one besides the ones he did. Most of the red where their original songs.
They worked on the few cover songs he didn’t know. He smirked when he learned the words to ‘Criminal’ and ‘Angel with a shot guns. Calling them ‘fitting'. They ran through each song about three times. The band knew how to play them. Levi had to get the words and timing down. They moved on. By the end of the night he knew six more cover songs.
“Thursday we will work on four originals. Give me the lyrics and I will memorize them. You will just have to teach me the timing.” He suggested.
“Come over tomorrow after school. I can play them for you. We have them recorded with Marco on vocals.” Eren said. He pulled open a drawer and took out sheets of paper. They were copies of the lyrics. He handed them to Levi. The shorter teen took them brushing his fingers over Eren's as he did so.
“Sure, I’ll meet you at your locker as usual.” He agreed. Eren nodded looking away. They all pitched in to get the garage packed back up.
“Levi.” Connie called. The older kid looked up. “Are you going to use Eren's mic or do you have one of your own?” he inquired. Levi glanced at Eren.
“I don’t have one.” He said.
“Ok cool.” Connie nodded. “I am already configured for Eren's mics.” He turned to walk Jean out to the driveway.
