Harper tossed onto her side, and picked up an arm. Harper played with Chapas fingers. Chapa kissed Harpers cheek gently, as she rubbed her eyes.
"What time is it Harp?"
Harper looked over. It was still pretty dark out.
"6 o'clock. Why don't we go down to the beach? Leave the others a note. We can get some free time."
Chapa smiled and nodded. The girls got out of bed and got changed. Harper grabbed the little note pad on the desk and tried to spell as best as she could.
Chapa and I whent down 2 bech.
Harper put the note on her folded bed, and grabbed her phone, sunglasses, towel, and surfboard. The girls went down to the beach and found two free chairs. Chapa and Harper set their stuff down. The beach was calm and quiet. Harper looked over to find her sunglasses to realize they were gone. Harper went to ask Chapa, when she found Chapa laying in her sweatshirt, with her sunglasses on.
"Chapa, why do you have my stuff?"
Chapa sat up.
"It smells like you!"
Harper shook her head and patted the spot on her chair, and Chapa quickly climbed on. Chapa laid her head on Harpers collarbone. Her hand rested on Harpers stomach.
"I would never have guessed when we first met how much of a cuddle bug you are."
Chapa looked over.
"I don't usually cuddle anyone. Only you. Not even my parents."
Harper brushed her fingers through Chapas hair.
"I got you love okay?"
"Okay."
A slight breeze blew by, making Chapa cling to Harpers side.
"I'm glad we woke up early. We would not get this type of time with the others."
Chapa nodded as she put her head back down. Harper hummed the familiar tune that always calmed Chapa. Chapa cuddled up closer and listened carefully. Harper smiled as she continued to hum. Chapa slowly fell asleep on Harper. Harper got up and laid Chapa down carefully. Harper grabbed her surfboard and went out to the water and caught the first wave she saw. After a couple of waves, a wet Harper walked back over to the chair Chapa was sleeping in. Harper looked around and saw there was nobody else on the beach, so she straddled over Chapa, and shook her wet hair gently. Chapa woke up and wiped the water drops off of her face.
"What was that for?"
Chapa asked groaning as Harper wrapped herself with her towel, and laid down next to Chapa.
"I had to wake you up somehow."
Chapa smiled as she laid next to Harper. Harper kissed Chapas forehead and closed her eyes.
—————————————————
The kids and Ray stood there.
"Should we wake them up?"
Mika asked quietly.
"I don't know.
Ray replied.
Harper pulled Chapa closer and started to sleep talk.
"Get away from her you faceless weirdos..."
They all started snickering as they listened. Chapa gripped at Harpers arm, and dug her nails in deep.
"To tight Chapa..."
Harper looked over and rolled her eyes.
"I'm awake."
They all laughed as the others headed towards the water, but Chapa remained sleeping. Harper rested Chapas head on her shoulder, and wrapped her arm around Chapas back, holding her in place.
"Can we try surfing again Harp?"
Harper looked over to Chapa, who was sitting up.
"Yeah, come on. Let's go if you really wanna try."
The girls got to the edge of the water and Harper placed the board down and got on. Chapa got on in front of Harper, who then started to paddle out towards a forming wave. Chapa gripped tightly onto the board, as Harper kept her focus on the wave. Then, Harper turned the board, letting the wave pick the board up, causing Chapa to scream in fear.
"Get me off! I don't wanna do this anymore!"
She screamed over Harpers laughing.
"It's not funny! Get me down!"
Harper only laughed harder. Making Chapa more and more annoyed. Harper was secretly guiding the board into the barrel, Chapa was too busy yelling at Harper, that she never realized what Harper was up to. Harper got the board into the barrel, causing Chapa to stop screaming, and to look around. Harper let the the wave take the board a bit, while she stood up, and watched Chapa look around curiously.
Harpers smile grew big as she gently touched the water. Chapa started screaming again, before Harper turned around and realized the barrel was getting smaller. Harper started paddling the board quickly through the barrel. Harper got them out of the barrel, and paddled then to shore.
"Wasn't that fun?"
Harper asks as she helped Chapa off the board, who then went straight to wrapping her arms around Harper, and shaking her head.
"I hated that. It was scary."
Chapa said quietly so the others couldn't here. Harper sat back down and pulled Chapa into her arms.
"Then you don't have to do it again Chapa. Surfing is a scary sport. It gets your blood pumping. It takes a few tries before you can open your eyes."
Chapa smiled as she looked to Harper and rested her head on her shoulder.
"Let me tell you a little story about when I started surfing."
Chapa got interested and looked over.
"When I started surfing, I was totally afraid like you are. I never wanted to learn, my grandmother forced me to learn, since she lives on the shore. After a couple of lessons in wave pools, I was top of my class. Do you see where this is going?"
Chapa shook her head.
"The wave pools are totally different then the ocean. I was so use to the wave pool, that when I got to the ocean, I thought I was ready. For the first time, I paddled out and I was super scared. I wouldn't let go of my board. Then, there was a gigantic wave and I got so scared that when it grabbed my board, I was frozen. I had thought that I was ready, when really I knew nothing. Then, I went straight for the barrel, when I never knew how to surf in a barrel. I started crying in the wave."
Chapa tilted her head.
"Then what happened?"
Harper sighed.
"I was trying to figure out how to surf the barrel when my board started to shake. I tried looking around, when I saw a shark biting at my board. I was so scared. Then, the wave pulled me off my board, and I got pulled under. I forgot all of my training, and I thought I was gonna die. Ends up being that I almost could have been killed by a Bull Shark. They are the most lethal shark species."
Chapa looked Harper in the eyes.
"Then what did you do?"
Harper looked away.
"I played dead. Sharks like their prey living. They like to work for their food. But I was slowly running out of air. Then I washed up on shore. My leg had a huge scar, my board had a huge bite mark, with some of it missing. I then realized that I was mortified of surfing. I never wanted to surf ever again. I faked being sick, got hurt on purpose, or even made myself sick, just to get out of going to lessons. Then I learned that if I kept faking it, nobody would believe me anymore. So one day, I got up and went to lessons. My teacher then let me ride on their board a few times. I realized that surfing wasn't that scary. Then, I was able to go by myself."
Chapa then pulled away from Harpers embrace.
"So... how does this help me be less scared of surf? Because now I'm even more mortified."
Harper laughed.
"Moral of the story is, is that your going to get wiped out. All the pros do it. But the more you try, the more you push yourself, then the more you will learn that somethings aren't as they may seem. You can't give up after one try."
Chapas nodded. Harper turned her leg, where, a large, pink, scar stood out from her tannish skin. It was about six inches. Chapa gasped as she looked at it.
"This is a reminder that you always have to be aware of your surroundings."
Chapa slowly touched it.
"That's the mark from the sharks tooth. I have a necklace I normally wear. I actually broke off the sharks tooth, and found it stuck in my skin. That's where the stitch marks are. I wear that tooth as a memory."
Chapa laid her head in the crook of Harpers neck. Harper held Chapa close. She hated that first time. But she knew she had to tell Chapa. And Chapa knew that she should listen.

Harper sat at the dinner table, with her head hanging low. The shark tooth was tucked away under her shirt. Harper hadn't touch her plate. Chapa couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with Harper. Ray stared at Harper concerned.
"Harp is there something wrong?"
Harper just shook her head. Chapa leaned her head on Harpers shoulder but Harper roughly brushed it off.
"Harper aren't you going to eat?"
Bose asked. But once again, Harper shook her head.
"Okay. Chapa What did you do?"
Chapa looked over at Ray and zapped him under the table.
"I didn't do anything! Why would you think it's my fault?"
"Because your always attached t-"
"Stop it!"
Harper said coldly. Harper got up and left the dining room. Chapa looked to Ray and they all sat in complete silence. Harper stomped off to her hotel room and locked the door behind her. Harper laid on her bed and let all the tears out. She cried so hard.
"Poor kid."
Chapas head flings towards Ray.
"What do you mean 'poor kid?'"
Ray just simply sighed.
"The kid hates getting upset in front of you guys."
Mika turned her head.
"Why? We do it all the time."
Ray looked down at his plate.
"You see, back when she lived in Dystopia, Riley didn't want the kids to show emotion. She taught them that if they wanted to cry, do it somewhere else. So, they grew thick skin. But Harper was still little so it was really hard for her to learn unlike her brothers. Now if she gets angry, she yells, upset, runs off. She hates showing her negative emotions."
Chapa sighs.
"I feel the exact same way."
Harper walked back into the dining room and sat in her chair.
"You good Harp?"
Ray asked again.
"Yes."
Harper replies weakly. Harper grabbed Chapas hand under the table. A small smile grew on Chapas face. Mika could tell Harper felt better. And Chapa was flat out relieved.
"Im sorry if I worried you."
Harper whispered in Chapas ear. Chapa looked over.
"It's fine really. Just tell me if your upset next time okay?"
Harper smiled and noded. The rest of the night the gang spent together watching a movie and hanging out. Harper was glad she moved to Swellview. And Chapa was too.
