sungjin was discharged from the hospital wing the following morning. although he was in much better shape than he was the previous night, his arm still needed time to heal. he could attend classes, albeit with many limitations because his injured arm just so happened to be his casting arm. luckily, you all agreed to help the best you could while he healed.
you all couldn't help but notice how upset sungjin looked when the upcoming quidditch season was announced or talked about excitedly amongst the students. his face fell almost immediately, glancing at the arm still in a sling against his chest. even though he tried to hide it by pasting on a grin, you could all tell that he was absolutely heartbroken.
during breakfast, although you all tried your best to ignore it, the tension was thick enough to slice through. even though you were sat at the gryffindor table, the table farthest away from the slytherin table, you all occasionally sent a glare at the boy who was currently snuggled up with his female counterpart. it angered you that he could just sit there and have the audacity to laugh and look gleeful whilst your friend was sitting next to you, miserable because of something that was his doing.
another part of you, a part that you tried to shove deep down and forget about, was partially angry because of the fact that they were cuddling at all. not because of what he had done to sungjin, but because he looked so content with her and you couldn't understand why.
she wasn't anything particularly special, you thought to yourself as you saw her lean in to whisper in his ear. she looked like any other girl that attempted to pull off the edgy, gothic look. what did jae see in her?
but whenever those thoughts came up, you waved them away. they were irrelevant anyways and thinking about it too much forced you to speculate why you were having these thoughts in the first place.
as soon as you had all finished, you walked outside into the entrance hall to chat before you split up to go to your respective classes. just as you turned to walk away with zahra and sungjin, however, you felt someone tapping on your shoulder.
younghyun was standing next to you, glancing around cautiously before speaking to you.
"can i talk to you alone for a second?" he asked. zahra and sungjin looked at him curiously.
"why?" you asked instead, peering up at him. his jaw was set and his eyes were piercing into you, conveying a look of frustration that he was desperately trying to contain. that's when you knew it was something serious.
"we need to talk about jaehyung," he said, his voice low and dangerous. you nodded hesitantly, telling your friends you would meet them in charms class afterwards.
you followed younghyun to an empty hallway just outside the great hall. he sighed, running a hand through his hair before he began.
"listen, i know you've been trying to convince us that jaehyung isn't all that bad... but after last night, i find that hard to believe. he sent your best friend to the hospital wing without a second thought. that is not the actions of someone who is good," he spoke, searching your expression for any trace of a challenge. finding none, he went on.
"i need you to stay away from him. i can't have you getting hurt too. is that clear?" he asked. you bit your lip, looking away from his stare. it was weird to see him like this; you knew younghyun was occasionally a serious person when he had to be, but you've never seen him so angry and concerned before.
you eventually nodded. "i will. but don't worry about me, please. i can take care of myself."
"you know i can't do that," he sighed. "sungjin's the most talented wizard in our year and he still couldn't handle jaehyung. i don't want to think about what he could do to you."
