[Skyler's POV]
As I walk to my home, a glint catches my eye. I walk over to a tree and see claw marks etched into the bark. I look closer, squinting my eyes. There was... something different, about the marks.
I ran my fingers along the tree and gasped. It was freezing, absolutely ice cold. I tilted my head, and my eyes went wide. The scratches had disappeared, and in there place, electric blue lines, coursing with electricity. It almost looked... alive. I tilted my head back into a normal position, and the marks reappeared. I moved my head back and forth, and the result was the same every time.
I shook my head. I'd think about this later. I had to get my entry ready.
The only chance I had to get into this block party was to bring something of value. A small rabbit stew? That was good enough.
I found the rabbit I had caught earlier cut up and ready to be cooked. I smiled. Kenma was always so nice. He was another boy, exiled for his family's mistake, and was like me, although he hated being seen. He only came by when I wasn't here and did a chore or left a note. Having the rabbit already cut up, and the hide ready to be tanned would shave off a lot of time. I laughed, one of the rare things I did.
I quickly set the pepper aside for cutting and put my bread to the side. In 30 minutes, my stew was bubbling and frothing. I inhaled. My spices and potatoes that I had grown had done the trick. This would be an amazing stew.
Another 15 minutes passed, and I was ready and armed with my stew. I glance at the tree with the claw marks. Something was so eerily familiar about the way that blue moved...
I walked on, past the small wire fence I put up around my small shack. I walked a few more minutes and reached the edge of the woods. I didn't set my base too far from the edge of the woods that I'd have to walk through the thicks, but I was far enough away the small area wasn't visible from the area where people usually stopped. So many people were so scared of the woods, but it was all rumor. Not that I'd tell them. I liked my silence, and the fact there was always so much to catch because of the lack of people that followed the hunter practice.
I walk to the village entrance. The guards always gave me an extra hard time. Like they knew anything...
"Oi, what's with the soup?" One of the guards tapped the big pot that held my stew, which made some of the liquid trickles down the sides, "Going to the block party, Bloody?"
"Do not call me that."
The guards laughed and smirked, "You don't like the nickname? Aw, okay. What about... sword slasher..?"
I stood there, anger boiling my blood beneath my skin. I seethed, baring my teeth. I was so done with these stupid insults. I smirked then, remembering what I had in my back pocket. I slowly reached my hand back, and both the guards wavered. Their smirks disappeared and their hands met with the handle of both their light guns.
"Hey! What are you doing!" The second guard yelled. I quickly reached into my back pocket, swiftly this time, and flung the paper mache flyers I had out in front of me. The guards shrieked and one of them shot off their gun, narrowly missing me. I laughed, harder than I have in a while.
"Holy shit man! What the fuck!? Just go! God!" The first guard said and opened the gate. I was the one who smirked that time, but as I walked by him, I whispered, "I'm glad I chose the right pocket."
I knew that I didn't have anything in my other back pocket, but the guard's face was priceless. How ever, I did have my pocket knife in my jacket.
My jacket was something I never went anywhere without. It was black, with lively turquoise lines swirling throughout the jacket. It had belonged to my mothers when she was my age. It was a little too big a year or two ago, but at the moment, it fits me perfectly. Along with the jacket, I wore a hat she bought when she was a little girl and wore it with my usual ponytail.
...
I looked ahead and saw that the party was just up ahead. They had held it at the town square, though it was more like a circle of grass than anything. I walked up to the guy sitting on a stool, watching people go in and out through the 4 entrances. When he saw me, he perked up and jumped down from his stool.
"Hey. What did you bring? It smells good," The guy tilted his head just a bit to make the act kinda cute. The guy himself wasn't bad either. Though, if he didn't mind the fact that I was an exile, he would of just let me pass instead of stopping me.
"I brought some rabbit stew. It has potatoes, smoked peppers, and, of course, rabbit."
The guy nodded as I handed him the stew. I smiled and walked into the party. Everything was loud with electronic music. The air smelled like a mix of sweet maple carrots and spicy smoked peppers. I immediately went to a stand selling maple carrots and threw down 2 Vens. All food was half off at any of the party's, so the food vendors sold a lot.
I was dancing and having an awesome time when I realized I was pretty far away from the center of the group. I was actually on the edge, where all the food was being sold. I sped up to a jog, wanting to get back into the thick of things when a girl and her boyfriend ran in front of me.
The girl's cloak hood flew back from her face as she fell tot he ground, and her eyes went wide with panic.
She had pink hair.
Sorry that this chapter was so short, I kinda just wanted to get this done. Although, (even though it was kinda obvious how they were gonna meet) I think I did a pretty good job of introducing our characters together, hm? Whata y'all think?
Again, constructive criticism is always helpful! Any mistakes that I make, please point them out. Thank you! :))
