                                                           [Jackie's POV]

"But mother! Why can't I got and see the public!" Jackie whined, "All I wish to do is see our subjects!"

"As I said, assassins my dear. The last 3 commanders have been killed, one way or another. I will not have my heir to the throne killed as well."

"So your heir, not your daughter?" Jackie muttered under her breath, walking away from her mother. It was always the same answer, no, but why? If she could just sneak not one night...

As she was walking near her father's office, she heard her father and the general speaking in hushed tones, "We must use all of our guards for this. There is no other way!" the general spoke.

"What about my daughter's bodyguards? Those as well?" Her father retorted.

"I'm afraid it must be done, sir. If we do not use every man we have, it could mean another assassination. We can not have your wife and you dying, like Jackies Grandparents. I promise no one with try and hurt Jackie while her bodyguards are away."

That's all Jackie needed to hear, and perfect timing. She dashed off to her bed-chamber. She ran down the hall, took a left, and then a right. Finally, she stopped at a set of golden doors. She knocked twice, whispered an enchantment, and slipped into her bedroom. If she did not do that, the second she had stepped foot through the door, she would have been dropped into the enchanted forest.

Jackie ran to her dresser and grabbed her untracked phone. Her parents tracked her every move, and she only used her other phone when she was contacting them or someone of importance. She used all her social media and texted all her friends from her "main" phone, the one she bought herself with a Kelm Card. She texted her next friend, Jordan Lloyd.

Hey, just found out I wont have bodyguards tn, wanna check out the towns? I downloaded a corruptor app so I can disengage my chip for the night

She ran to her dresser and took out her cloak. It would make it harder to realize it was her if anybody cared enough to check her. Her pink hair would be another matter, but she didn't care about that at the moment. She grabbed her riding boots, which we're black and muddy, so she thought they would fit with the style of the poor's clothing. As she was sticking money in her boots, her phone screen lit up.

ofc! meet at the stone circle?

Jackie smiled and immediately knew what she wanted to do.

wanna grab street food while we r out there? i hear theres gonna be a block party at midnight

totally, and we'll go to that party too, Jordan wrote back.

This was going to be a night Jackie would never forget...

And boy was that true...

                                                         [Skylar's POV]

I set the cloth sack on the tavern bar, "Hey, Ruby! I got some more meat for you!"

The redhead walked from the side of the bar she was at and opened my sack. She gave a hardy laugh and smiled at me, "Well, I'll be damned! A full 2 rabbits! I am assuming you caught three, and kept one for yourself?" I nodded, "Well, that's fair, I suppose. Kenedy, get this fine lady some money, and some beer."

I grinned. Ruby was always kind to me. Though, two rabbits were a good haul. Meat wasn't something everyday townsfolk was able to eat, so the very few hunters who did catch rodents or birds, like rabbit or hawks, were well paid. Being a hunter was a job not many people wanted, seeing as you had to go pretty deep into the forest to get actual game. I was paid a lot less than I should be, however, because of my blood.

I couldn't be served anything other than vegetables or water, so whenever Ruby gave me a beer, she could literally be arrested. But right now, it didn't look like she cared. She knew she could make a fine stew with two full rabbits, and I will be paid with at least 20 Vens. Maybe even a Kelm Card with 25 dollars on it.

Kenedy slid a foaming beer down the bar and it landed cleanly in my hand. Kenedy then came down the bar with cash in his hand. 25 Vens. That is a lot for what I brought it.

Ruby smiled and nodded, "Ruby, you know that this is a lot, I-"

"I don't want to hear it. It's unfair how they treat you, whether you're blood to your father or not. Well, shit, I don't want you to live in those woods by yourself, girl. Why don't you take my offer? Live with Kenedy and me?"

"You know I can't do that, Ruby. If they caught you and Kenedy, you'd be allying a traitor's daughter, and therefore would be stripped of your rights, same as me. I can't ask you to do that," I sighed. Ruby knew damn well what would happen, and she still didn't care. She knew that when people saw me come through that door, most of her customers would leave, meaning slow business, and less money. She knew that if someone snitched that I was getting this type of treatment from her, that she would be just like me. An exile. She wouldn't be able to keep her bar, she wouldn't be able to feed herself or her husband. She'd live like me. I couldn't do that to her.

Ruby nodded solemnly and smiled, "Well, drink up! I'd give you some food, but I'm expecting a "friend", and I don't very much trust him. Drink your beer fast, girly, so you can go catch the last cart."

I chugged my beer fast and handed the glass back to Ruby. If my mother was here, I can imagine she would be just like Ruby. Pretty, but at the same time, rugged. Small, but feisty. A strong attitude, and won't take shit from no one. If my mom was here, Ruby and her would be best friends, I know it.

"Well, you're right. Only Garber's cart is open at this time, so I'll have to pay double price. I best be going, Ruby. Take care! You too Kenedy!" I hopped off my barstool and dashed out the door, running to the right. I squeezed through an alleyway, a short cut to get the cart square. I saw Garber's cart just as he started to pack up.

"Wait! Garber!" I yelled, speeding up. If you weren't there by the time he shut off his light, you wouldn't get shit from him. I was able to get to him right before he flicked his light switch, and panted handing him 20 of my Vens.

Garber counted out the Vens slowly, watching me, making sure I didn't take nothing, "Okay, your usual, bloody?"

I winced at the nickname, though it shouldn't bother me at this point. I hated how people called me names, even though it was my father who had committed treason. Not me, not my mother, or brother. My father. But my brother was killed, along with my mother. I was the only one kept alive. They had wanted someone to pay for his crimes. Paying with 2 lives isn't enough!?

I snapped out of it and watched as Garber took out two smoked red bell peppers, and a single piece of bread, "Here. What type of meat did you catch today? Mouse? Maybe a tweeter?"

 "Rabbits, sir."

"Ah, so that's where your money came from. Here I am thinking you stole. Hm. No no, a traitor's daughter would never!" Garber smirked and pocketed the cash. He was always trying to get me angry, and most of the time, he succeeded. Tonight though, I was too tired to argue.

"Goodnight, Garber," I forced a smile and walked away, stuffing the food into my food sack, which had been in my pack.

I was so ready to go to the town block party at midnight.
