Chapter One

The farm

In the wake of the revelations of the past few weeks, Max and his strange new family get settled down to regular life, well as much as you can in a family of time travelers. Anne Smith, who is the adoptive parent of Max also has her son Evan, and now because of the revelation that the Corbins were not Sam's parents, she is suspected to also be a time traveler, now Anne has a teenage girl to raise as well. Then there is Jennifer Hystory, Max's real mother who was found and saved from the clutches of the Corbins and the scientists who were trying to use her to make a time travel weapon. Jennifer and Mrs. Wallace now head up an organization called G.R.E.A.T. genetic research expedition and tracking, which will protect people with a genetic mutation called Hystobia, named after Jennifer and Max. Mrs. Wallace will be the strong arm behind the agency which will track down Nancy and Gary Corbin and their Scientist's and put them in prison, but also get the drug they used to keep Jennifer from using her abilities while she was held captive. With that drug, they could help young people control the effects of the Hystobia until they are older and able to control the effects without the drug. Another thing G.R.E.A.T. will do is to search the world for people with the mutation and bring them to a secure area where they will not hurt themselves or anyone else. Anne Smith will head up the secure area at a farmhouse located on a hundred acres in rural Missouri, it is self- sufficient and protected by troops on The perimeter from nearby Fort Leonard Wood. Everyone seems to have a job except the kids, as the confusion of getting organized takes place around them, they collectively seem lost. Seeing this phenomenon Max takes charge, he prepares along with the rest of the children to pack up their belongings and move away from St Ann. Reluctance fades away as the eagerness to start a new life at "the farm" as they call it becomes more and more appealing.

Anne drives her brand new government issue Ford Expedition onto the gravel road that leads up to the farmhouse, she is amazed at the incredible amount of expense their fledgling agency has commanded. Max, Sam and Evan ride along with their faces pasted to the windows of the new truck to get a look at their new home as they come around the last turn of the dusty gravel road. A large ranch style house sits on top of high ground surrounded by acre after acre of open fields, there are a few trees in the front and back and off in the distance, the open expanse is surrounded by hundreds of acres of tall pine trees. This is a very remote area, which is good if anyone decides to come after them. Anne pulls up in front of the white ranch style house and parks, no sooner does she put the truck in park and the kids are flying out the doors, eager to explore their new home. She tries calling after the three of them, but her calls fall on deaf ears, they run off so intent on their purpose that an explosion couldn't turn their focus.

"I get the first pick of bedrooms!" Max bellows as he runs into the house.

"I don't think so!" Sam yells back just a few steps behind him.

Evan tries to keep up, but they are older and faster than him, He reaches the door and slows down thinking he will just have to take the room neither of them wants. Then he realizes something, and an evil little smile comes across his evil little face, he knows he has the power that can give him any room he wants, all he has to do is whine and complain to his mother Anne, and she will give in and make the older kids trade to make peace.

"It's great to be me," He declares to himself.

"What did you say squirt?" Max asks sticking his head out the door of the first bedroom.

"Nothing," He replies.

Evan walks the hallway looking at all the different bedrooms trying to decide which one he wants, meanwhile Sam and Max are pretty certain they know which ones they want. Evan makes his decision, then walks around to the kitchen area to find Anne, because he doesn't want to waste a great performance if she is not there to see it. Anne appears through the front door carrying a couple of bags and drops them on the kitchen floor, Evan steps closer to her and prepares to burst out in fretted ambivalence over the bedroom situation. His eye's well up with tears, his face starts to get red, and just when Anne starts to notice him from the corner of her eye, a moment before she discovers what the problem is Max and Sam walk into the kitchen.
