Autumn 1976
Josie spinned around in front of a mirror, watching her own reflection dressed in dark blue dress. Dark blue really was her colour, but her butt seemed too big to her in this cut.
"You look amazing in those." Her friend Susan assured her.
"Yeah, butt as big as brewery mare."
"Is that what you people say?" Susan laughed. "And no, your butt looks hot. And it's time to have some fun!"
Josie rolled her eyes, but went back inside the fitting room, changed back to her clothes and took the dress to the cashier.
Her best friend's idea to celebrate their bachelor's degree seemed interesting at first, but then Susan insisted on going to one of the most expensive clubs in London, she wasn't so sure about it, she just finished her school and was unemployed, this was ou of her options. Susan explained to he, that they won't pay for anything. Josie wasn't so sure about that.
After the shopping they went to Susan's home, she lived with her parents in Lambeth. They greeted them and ran upstairs, where was Kate's room. Josie envied her that a bit, for a long time she had just a tiny room with shared bathroom and kichen, this cozy bedroom with home-cooked meals was a luxury. And what's more she had to move out in two weeks.
Josie tried not to worry about that now and started with her make-up. They were in the middle of their preparations, when Susan's mum entered and brought them two glasses and a wine, much better than they usually drank at student parties.
"I thought you could start the celebration with something nice." she explained and the brand new bachelors thanked her.
They left the house two hours later, a bit tipsy, Susan wore red, tight dress and black high-heels, Josie her new deep cut dress with silver strappy high-heels. She now believed there's a pleasant evening in the Resistence ahead of them.
Their only luck was Susan knew a bouncer there, her high-school friend, otherwise they wouldn't even got in. The friend acknowledged they have enough reasons to get in, but did emphasied it's a one time thing.
"So, what are we gonna do, withou drinks?" Josie asked and looked around at the luxury of club. With a look of disbelief she watched some girl diving white powder into lines and then inhaling them with a rolled banknote. This really was another world.
"Dance?" Susan proposed, but once in his place, she also lost her courage.
"Let's just walk." said Josie, the dance floor was filled with heated couples. Susan agreed, so they walked around the room and found a door to a terrace. The girls felt like their lungs were already filled with smoke, so they slipped outside. The terrace was beautifully decorated with fairy lights, the tables were covered with food and drinks.
"Gorgeous dress!" A brunette exclaimed, once she saw Josie. She looked a bit surprise, the young woman was already close to her, touching her skirt.
"From whom are? I don't know you." The brunete smiled friendly.
"Well, Brandon." Susan stuttered.
"And he's?" The woman wondered, but then she extended her hand. "I'm Chris. Brian's." she explained.
"I'm sorry, miss Mullen. Ladies, this is a private party, if you excuse me, I'll walk you ou." A tall, muscly man spoke to them.
"We got lost."
"Now wait a minute, I'm talking to them." Chris stopped the man. Next to her was suddenly tall, curly-haired man, the girls knew immediately, which Brian is this one.
"The girls here aren't invited, sir, but your girlfriend..."
"Wife." gnarled Christine.
"That's alright, they're invited now." Brian assured the bodyguard.
