Apollo smiled as he ignored the way the house groaned as he tapped the door. He's sandaled feet tapped anxiously as he forced himself to stared at the dark wooden door.
His ears filled with the sound of his pounding heart wishing for a response. He was positive his future father-in-law was still at home. He hadn't seen the old man leave for months. According to his love, her father was bedridden with some unknown illness. It was not contiguous and she guessed it was due to his old age.
"Hello!" Apollo shouted growing agitated at wanting for about two minutes.
There was a loud thud inside the house making Apollo blue eyes widen in shock. Without hesitation or permission, he slammed the door opened to reveal the rather empty home. He stepped inside scrunching his nose up in distaste. How could his love live in such conditions?
"I'll have to improve it for her," Apollo said nodding in agreement to his plan. His thoughts of redecorating were interrupted by a loud groan from a room down the hall.
"(F/N)! Are you home yet?!" Apollo brightened up hearing the sound of his future father-in-laws voice. He walked down the hall to see one door and it was closed. "I've fallen and can't get up!"
Apollo opened the door to see the old man on the floor on his back. The blankets were pooled around barely covering the man's naked chest and legs.
"Oh (F/-" the man paused staring at Apollo with an unreadable expression. Apollo's grin grew as he stared at the old man. "Who are you?!"
"Oh, uh." Apollo paused thinking over his response. In the past saying, he was a god never got him the best reactions. "I'm Octavius."
The old man narrowed his (e/c) eyes that were full of suspicion. Apollo watched nervously as the old man seemed to search his soul. Eventually, the old man broke off eye contact with a groan leaning backward in pain. "Whatever, just help me."
"Yes sir," Apollo said jumping into action. He bent over and gently clutched the old man's biceps silently admiring how hard they were. Though he frowned as he caught a whiff of the old man. "Its bad isn't it?"
The old man huffed as Apollo laid him back in the bed with ease. It wasn't too hard with him being a god. "I've been like this for months." The old man waved off resting his head back onto his pillow. "Why are you here young man?"
"Oh," Apollo said feeling his cheeks warm up a bit. The Old Man raised an eyebrow at the reaction but decided to stay quiet. "I'm here to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage."
Instead of full blow, angry or happy reaction as Apollo received was laughter, full-blown laughter. The god stared in confusion as his future father-in-law laughed clutching his stomach. Tears were dripping from his closed eyes that were screwed shut from the laughing. Apollo, fully confused, let out a few awkward chuckles unable to find anything entertaining. It was a pure confession.
The old man wheezed opening his eyes to wipe away his tears. "Absolutely not." The old man said as his laughing fit finally ended. He looked at the hidden god amusement dancing in his (e/c) eyes. "I have no say in who she marries anymore, ever since-" he gestured to his bedridden body. "If you wish for her hand, you must ask her yourself."
The thing that scared Apollo the most. It was much easier to ask a father for his daughter's hand in marriage. Fathers could be persuaded with money and empty promises. Women were more hardheaded when it came to marrying strange men. And most women in Apollo's family were hardheaded about marriage. Look at his step-mom, Zeus had to trick her into marrying him and she absolutely hated their marriage. Then there's his own twin who swore off love and marriage in order to stay a maiden and hunt for her entire life.
Apollo knew his love was independent and wouldn't accept a marriage proposal easily. Maybe it was time to ask Uncle Hades for some advice.
"Thank you for informing me, sir," Apollo said faking a smile.
The old man chuckled mischievously. "No problem kid but I would like to ask you a few questions before you ask her."
Apollo raised a golden eyebrow genuinely curious about what he wanted. "I thought you couldn't decide who she marries?" He asked crossing his arms over his chest.
The old man glared at the god annoyed. "That doesn't mean I cant influence her decision." The old man threatened earning a small annoyed groan from Apollo. "How are you with housework?"
"Housework?" Apollo repeated tapping his chin. Being a god meant he didn't have to do a whole lot. All he did was play on his lyre while driving the sun. He occasionally went down to the mortal world to woe men and women. But housework was a bit foreign to him since Hera did most of it, annoyed of course. And hey if Hera could do it, why couldn't he? "I'm very good at it!"
The old man nodded seemingly satisfied. "How would you feel having to take care of me every day while (F/N) is outside with her flock of sheep?"
Staying inside with the old geezer while his future wife went outside to hang out with some sheep? The geezer was sick and didn't seem to have too much time left. Plus once they wed Apollo could always get some minor god to watch the sheep for her. So, Apollo nodded seemingly pleased with his idea. "I would not mind at all sir."
"Okay." The old man responded calmly. "And the last question, are you going to treat my daughter with respect and not like a piece of property?"
Oh, Apollo paused. (F/N) was a strong, independent woman she actually reminded him of his twin Artemis. The only difference being one was immortal while the other was mortal. "(F/N) is not property, she's her own person. She's strong, independent, and kind. Yes, she's very beautiful but its what's on the inside that makes her truly special. She's a woman that does what she pleases and nobody, not even her husband, should be able to take away her free spirit." Apollo said speaking his mind honestly. His face was a dark red and a small love-sicken smile on his face.
The old man was speechless as he stared at the god. Apollo opened his eyes a bit worried about the geezer's reaction to his confession.
"O-Oh was that too much?" Apollo asked rubbing the back of his head. He hoped he didn't creep out her father with his deep thoughts. Apollo, for the first time, felt a bit embarrassed by his long declaration of love and a bit disappointed. He's deep confession wasn't even to the girl he loved, it was to her nosy father.
"I-I see." The old man said awkwardly coughing into his hand doing his best to forget the heart filled speech. Though he was silently pleased Octavius didn't see his daughter as some prize to be won. No, he realized she had a free spirit and didn't wish to take it away. "Well, you have my blessing to confess to her."
His blessing? His blessing? Apollo couldn't believe his ears. The geezer who had glared and threatened him had given his blessing to at least confess to his daughter. Apollo broke out into a big grin unable to contain himself as the sun seemed to flood the room due to his excitement. "Thank you, sir!"
The old man grumbled but a small smile appeared on his lips. "Just don't blow it, kid."
