Chad's Trial

(Ben's pov)

(A few days later)

I was sitting on my bed. Then I heard someone coming upstairs. 

My mom opened my door and looked at me. "Ben it's time to get going."

I nodded and stood up. I followed her out the door and down the stairs. When we walked outside my dad was already waiting in the car.

 (At the court)

We walked into the court room. There was already a lot of people sitting. I saw Evie sitting with her family. We made eye contact and smiled at each other.

Then we walked up to the front where Chad's family was. 

"Thank you for coming." Chad's mom said to us.

"Of course..." My mom was saying.

"We won't miss it." I cut her off.

We took our seats by Evie and her family. 

"Hi." Evie greeted me.

"Hey." I replied sitting next to her.

"I'm nervous." She confessed.

"About what?" I questioned looking at her concerned.

"Well we have to go up in front of everyone and talk." She was explaining.

"I know, but you have nothing to worry about. Everyone knows how close you and Chad were." I assured her. 

After a while it was Evie's turn to go up and talk about Chad and answer the questions. When it was my turn I walked up, then looked over and saw Mal in the back.

"Okay Ben, we just want you to tell us your relationship with Chad. Then we're gonna ask you a few questions." They told me.

"Okay. Well... He was my best friend. He had his ups and downs, but he never did anything to hurt me or anyone for that matter. Last year when I became the new captain, even though Chad was upset about him not being picked he never threatened me. He was supportive of me being chosen." I told them.

Right as they were about to start asking me the questions the doors opened. Two officers walked in and in between them was a boy with chains on his wrist and his feet. Then as they stepped in more I realized it was Harry. 

I stood up and pointed at him. "What is he doing here?!"

Everyone turned around and looked at them. I heard Evie gasp.

"It's okay Ben. His parents wanted him to be here for this." They explained to me.

"Then I can't be here." I stepped away and ran out a different way. 

(No one's pov)

"I can't be here either." Evie said and ran out the same way as Ben.

(Ben's pov)

I was standing outside the court catching my breath. Then I could tell someone was standing behind me. I turned around and saw Evie. Her eyes were watery. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her. 

"Why would they bring him here?" Evie asked with a quiver in her voice.

"I don't know." I answered and was rubbing her back.

"There you guys are." Evie's mom ran out to us with her dad and my parents behind her. 

I pulled away from Evie and backed up a little.

"Evie are you alright?" Her mom checked putting her hand on Evie's back.

"I want to go home." Evie said rubbing her eyes.
