A Friend

(Ben's pov)

We finished our breakfast at the hotel. Then we packed up our things and started heading to meet with the person.

(On the road)

"Um guys?" Doug spoke.

I looked through the mirror at him. "Yeah?"

"My parents keep calling and texting me." Doug told us. "What do I do?"

"Ignore them." I said.

"What?!" Doug said shocked.

"Ben!" Mal yelled.

"What?" I asked.

"That'll worry them way more if he doesn't say anything." Evie explained.

"Fine. Text them and tell them you're okay and that you're staying at a friend's house." I instructed. "I told my parents I was going on a school trip."

(A couple hours later)

"Okay I think this is the house." I said as I pulled up to a small one story house.

The four of us got out of the car and walked up to the front door. Mal knocked on the door. After a few seconds the door opened.

"Hi, I'm Ben, the one you sent the evidence to." I told her.

"Oh yes come in." She opened the door more and let us in.

"What did you say your name was?" Mal questioned as she walked in.

"Mary." She stated.

"So you think you can help us find Audrey?" I checked.

"I believe that I can." Mary replied. "I don't know if you guys wanted this, but I found some stuff out about that guy, Chad that was killed."

None of us said anything, but Evie turned away with her hand on her face. Doug rushed over to her and put his arm around her.

"Is she okay?" Mary checked.

"Chad was her boyfriend." Mal mentioned.

"Oh. I'm so sorry I brought that up." Mary was saying.

"It's okay you didn't know." I responded. "He was my best friend also. I would like to know. We should just leave Evie out of it."

"Yeah." Mary nodded. "Well if you two want to follow me we can go into a different room and talk."

Me and Mal followed Mary into a room and she shut the door behind us.

"So what do you two know so far?" Mary wondered.

"All we know is that he was framed and when he was in his cell this other guy, Harry killed him. And he did it because Harry liked Evie and wanted Chad out of the way." I was telling her.

"So you don't know how Harry killed him?" Mary checked.

"No we don't." Mal answered.

"Well the plan wasn't always to kill Chad. Harry just wanted to frame him so he'd go to prison and be out of the way. So Harry went to visit Chad and told him he was spending time with Evie and comforting her. Then Harry asked if it was okay since Chad was gonna be in prison if Harry could ask Evie out." Mary was explaining.

Me and Mal were listening, then there was a knock on the door.

"Come in!" Mary called out.

The door opened and Doug walked in. "I tried calming her down, but she doesn't want to hear about it so she waiting in another room."
