AN ODE TO MY DAD

Ofainɛ, te oyɔɔ tɛŋŋ?
You have always been my biggest cheerleader and greatest critic.
You always push me to be my best.
If not for you, I would not have found my talent of poetry when I did.

Miye afii ekpaa when I realised I didn't have a dad.
I was 8 when I met him.
I was 10 when I realised he wasn't mine, that our bond was not biological,
But I can tell that our love is chronological.
I can tell you the day I began to love him; that was the day he walked into my life with a love for my
mother.
And even though I love him with all my heart, I know it's not even half of what he deserves.
He deserves the world, and everything round it.
I'd offer him the Milky Way, but like a true SDA vegan he'd probably refuse it.
With his ever humble heart he'd donate it to those around him.
"Take it" he'd say, "it's just a small token"
Spoken like a true saint.
It could be his last bite of Uncle John's bofroat and he'd still give it away.
Dad,
My dad.
My dad is humble.
My dad is kind.
He is loving and forgiving.
He is multi hyphenated, educated and lingual.
My dad?
My idol.
My inspiration.
Bo ji mi abaanyɛ.
Happy fathers day.
I love you.
