How did she end up here again? Hailey thought the days and nights of waking up beside him were long gone, yet here they were together again in the same bed.

That embrace beside the lake led to a forceful, steamy kiss. It was a heartbroken type of kiss. Alex's wings enveloped and hid them from the sight of other humans. Hailey was the only one who ever saw him in this angelic form. Only she knew where his heart truly lay.

"I love you, Hailey. That's not something that easily goes away."

She didn't respond. However, she did kiss him again, deeper than before, and led him to her apartment down the street.

Hailey wasn't able to resist. Sadly, she didn't want to either. It was cruel, being crossed in love, cursed by God, and knowing how to stop the world from spinning into ruin but unable to take that next step to do it.

She sat up in bed, trying to clear her head. Thoughts that plagued her day and night became more prominent around him. Alex still slept beside her, his pristine wings now receded back into his human form. The bed sheets hugged his curves beautifully. He'd been sculpted to physical perfection. A fine sheen of sweat from the Florida heat spread over his forehead, making the dark tendrils of hair stick to his skin. After more than 300 years of celibacy, Hailey had forgotten how magical it was being with an angel.

That was the trouble with their relationship- Everything on the surface seemed so right, like it was meant to be. On the occasion they came forward to others, expressed their love for each other (leaving out the angel and immortality bits), people would point and awe at them. Perfection had met perfection, and it was recognizable to any human being.

But on the inside, deep in her heart and probably his too, there was a knowledge like no other- Hailey and Alex lived in perpetual sin that God could never forgive.

Hailey gave a long sigh and planted her feet on the floor. She sat at the edge of her bed and stared at the full moon in the sky. This hurts, Hailey thought. It hurts a lot.

She could still see Lucifer bent over in pain, groveling in front of the white light of God, screaming in agony. Dinah could only watch on her knees, tears streaming down her innocent, naïve cheeks. She was frozen in the presence of this angry Creator. God's words from that moment in the Garden echoed in her mind. She felt the harsh chill in His voice as He commanded the wind to speak on His behalf:

"Your sin is great. You will both be punished for this transgression! Lucifer, you will ferry the souls of the damned to Hell. Woman, you are cursed with immortality and shall remain barren the rest of your days. Together, you will bring destruction to those innocent beings around you, and you will know of your sin day and night! Until Lucifer can see the light and sentence her soul to eternity, this is your punishment on Earth forever!"

They were expelled from the Garden, all of them, and Dinah watched her mother and father walk away, never to be seen again except in the pages of history. There was no trace left of her and Lucifer's existence.

What an evolution! From a naive child of purity to an immortal, cursed human being!

Hailey stood at her bedroom window and watched the sunrise appear on the horizon, casting a warm orange light on the swampy marshes. Florida was such a beautiful place. So hard to believe there could be this much pain in a world so full of beauty.
