Chapter III

I left the bathroom and headed back to the classroom. After an insanely long and boring introduction class, me and Junko headed to the dining hall to eat lunch. On our way there, I asked Junko, "So Junko, why did you meet with Yasuke?"

Junko brought her fists to her hips and said, "This affair is none of your business, filthy peasant!" she spoke like a queen talking down to one of her subject.

"But Junko, if you tell me, maybe it will help me to-"

"I don't give a shit if ya help me or not, you moron. You could just go and die alone for all I care."

I blushed. What effect would that have on you, Junko? Being told that I died alone from a pathetic death? Would that bring you despair?

Suddenly, Junko stopped walking and stared blankly into the hallway. Then, she smirked and ran away extremely fast. "YASUKE YASUKE YASUKE YASUKEEEEEEEE!!!!!" she yelled.

"Junko, wait!" I said, but it was too late. She turned into another hallway and disappeared. I heard someone yell "OUCH!" from that hallway. Well, I guess she found him. I think I would just disturb them if I followed them, and I don't like Yasuke all that much either.

Now here I am, all by myself again. Why do you always have to leave, Junko? I'm so lost without you...

After a few second, I pulled myself together and I decided to go in the dinning hall anyway. It was the best thing to do, since I haven't eat in all day and I gotta be strong if someone decide to attack me. It's very unlikely, but one is never enough prepared, as they say! I think...

I arrived at the dining all and went to the food counter where I was served by a peculiar... specimen?

"Well bonjour, I'm Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Cook, but please, call me Chef," he said with a lewd tone, "How may I help such a wonderful, delightful lady today?" This guy is an absolute loser...

I took a tray and started filling it with food. I decided that it was best to ignore him, for both my and his sake.

"Ohhh," he said with a drop of blood coming out of his nose, "Mashed potatoes, huh... I putted so much love and so much cream into those... If I were you, I would take two balls of those plus a big, fat carrot..."

Alright. Enough is enough. I looked at him with the coldest look I have ever made. His face became red. "Or perhaps you like it more rough? Then, I would suggest-"

I walked away. Damn, this guy pisses me off...

"Goodbye, Mademoiselle!" he shouted.

I sat at a table, alone, I didn't have anybody to talk to anyway, and I gotta find Junko.

"Hey! Do you want some company?" said a girl.

I looked up and saw Sayaka, smiling. She had a food tray too. "Oh, hum, O-OK" I said, very surprised. She seemed to be by herself.

She sat in front of me and asked, "Hey, weren't you with Junko a few moments ago?"

"Y-Yeah..." I mumbled.

"Did she really left you all by yourself?"

"Yeah......"

"That's not very nice, is she doing that often?"

"Yeah........."

"Well, I'm a bit in the same situation here. Makoto had to leave to go pick up something he ordered online."

This whole conversation is very weird. Of all people in the dining hall, she decided to eat with me, even if she is the Ultimate Pop-Sensation, which means she could be friend with basically anybody. Why me, the cold-looking soldier, was chosen?

"I know, it's very weird that I decided to eat with you, right?" she said.

"Wha-," I stuttered, very surprised, "H-How did you k-know that-"

Her face changed to a very serious expression and said, "Because I'm psychic." I think she said that to Makoto earlier... "Just Kidding!" she giggled, "I just have a very good intuition." I think she said that, too. "Anyway, I came to eat with you because nobody should be eating alone, and I think you're nice, too!"

Someone calling me nice again? How can I be nice? All I do is being cold or embarrassed when someone tries to talk to me. This is so weird! Is it some kind of dream? Will I wake if I slap myself?

*SLAP*

Nothing happened. I'd better do it again to be sure.

*SLAP*

So this isn't a dream? How can it be?

"Oh my god!" shouted Sayaka, "Why are you slapping yourself?! Stop it! You'll end up getting hurt!"

"I-I just wanted to v-verify that it wasn't a dream..." I replied.

"Huh?"

I closed my eyes and said, "This is weird... It's the first time I get to hang out with someone other than soldiers or my sister... Nobody ever came to me just to talk before."

"Wait, so you're telling me that you actually never had any friends other than your sister?" She gasped and put her hand over her mouth, "Oh! I'm sorry! That came out wrong! What I wanted to say is-"

"It's okay, you're right. I was an introvert as early as I can remember. I never really tried to make friends."

"Well in that case," said Sayaka with a smile, "Let me be your real first friend!"

"Huh?"

"I think we are getting along very well, and I'm having fun right now! How about you?"

I smiled. I think it's the first time I smile at somebody else other than Junko. What's happening to me?

"I think it's nice to talk about something other than the usual stuff with my sister once in a while..." I said.

It's OK if I have friends, right? Junko said that it'll bring me despair, so it's a good thing, right? I wish you could look at me now, Junko...

"What do you mean by the usual stuff?" asked Sayaka.

Shit, I said to much!

"Well, hum, I mean.. Ehhh, girly things like f-fashion and makeup..." I didn't sound convincing at all...

"Oh, yeah, your sister is the Ultimate Fashionista after all. But anyway, I think we should hang out more often!"

I guess it's okay, I mean, it'll give me something to do when Junko is not around.

"Alright then, let's be friend!" I said while blushing. Wow, I would never have thought that I would say those words one day...

"Yay!" shouted Sayaka with joy, "And look, you already look more comfortable around me!"

"Huh? You think so? How do you know that?"

"Like I said, I'm psychic."

I giggled. Now she's gonna say that she's kidding.

"You must think that I'm gonna say that I'm kidding, right?"

"Wha-"

"Well you're right! I just have a really good intuition!" As she said that, we bot burst in laughter. I think it's the first time someone actually tells me a joke to make me laugh and not to make fun of me...

"Anyway," continued Sayaka, "You stopped stuttering! That must mean you're more confident that you were, right?"

"I stopped stuttering?" I replied, surprised, "I didn't even notice that I was stuttering in the first place..."

We continued to talk for a while before we went back to class. Junko was missing, though. She was probably still with Yasuke.

At the end of the day, I felt more tired than usual and I went to bed early. Before I fell asleep, I was wondering if I missed my entire childhood by not having a real friend...

The despair I was feeling must have been a good thing, right?
