Taylor's POV

"VAMPIRES HAVE MATES TOO YOU KNOW!" played over and over in my mind. I kept replaying the look of pain on her face and feeling worse and worse about the way I treated Alex. All my life I'd treated vampires like they didn't deserve to be here. It's all I've ever known. My father taught me how to hunt and fight them since I was able to walk. I never gave a single thought to their point of view. You never thought of them as humans. Shut up Catherine, they aren't human. But they were once, oh dumb one. I rolled my eyes.

I can't believe that she was my supposed other "mate". I shook my head. How was that going to work? Jason is my mate. There was a reason why I was so drawn to him before. Yeah, his 8 pack abs. Really Catherine? Who says no to abs? I sighed. My body tensed up when I heard footsteps coming towards the door.

"Hey sis." Tavon said with a smile, opening the door and closing it shut behind him. I huffed and folded my arms across my chest in reply. "I'll take that as a hello from you. Anyways, I think it's about time you start getting used to living like a regular person again. It's time you got out of this room and took a look at your new home."

I laughed out loud at his statement. "You expect me to call wherever we are my home? I am surrounded by vampires. I've been trained to hunt down and kill people like you my whole life. How do you think that's going to work out?"

Tavon let out an exasperated breath. "How about you don't hunt or kill us. Maybe you might actually learn a thing or two about how we live. We're not the killers you were brought up to hate. Your father was biased. He-" I slammed my fist on the frame of my bed.

"Don't talk about my father like you knew him." I glared at Tavon. Who was he to talk poorly about my father? "My father and my pack are looking for me as we speak. It's only a matter of time until they find me and when they do, you're going to wish you hadn't taken me."

Tavon's stony face never changed. "You don't know your father as well as you think you do Taylor. He has kept a lot from you. There's a reason he brought you up to hate vampires. I'm trying to open your eyes to the biases that you have. If you took the chance to get to know us I think you'll actually like it her-"

"Here?" I interrupted. "You've kept me as a prisoner in this cell for how long? It really doesn't matter how long because this place is always going to be a prison for me. I'm an outsider and everyone here knows it. All of the vampires can smell me from a mile away. Do you actually think they'll give me a chance?"

"Not with that attitude they won't" he huffed.

I got up and walked up to Tavon, my face inches from his face. "I don't want to get to know your people." I sneered. "I don't want to be here. Get that through your thick skull." I said poking his head with my index finger for emphasis.

Tavon sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Can't you get past all this?" he asked motioning around the room. "I did this to keep you safe and in one place. Believe it or not, I care about your well being. If not for me, you wouldn't have survived the transition."

Fire danced in my eyes. "I wouldn't have had to almost die in transition if you hadn't had come into my life. You fucked everything up!" I pointed my finger at him and stepped closer. "You're the reason I've been in so much pain. You freaking bit me. You took me from my mate. You took me away from my friends. I'd be fine without you in my life Tavon."

Tavon's expression grew cold. "Fine. You're right. You would have gone about your life hating vampires and hunting us down. You would have followed your father to the grave if it meant getting rid of all of us. Did you ever once just ask yourself what you were doing? You were ripping families apart. Each vampire that you chased down in your territory was apart of some type of clan. They had friends. They had lives too. You and your werewolf packs took everything from them. For them, you were the bad guys. Who cares though? You're just an all high and mighty alpha werewolf. You can do what you want without a care in the world, right? I don't know why I thought you'd want to try to get to know me as a brother. You already have one back home. I guess one is enough for you." Tavon shook his head and slammed the door shut as he exited the room.

I stood there letting his words sink in. Maybe he was right.  Taylor, we need to find a way out of here. I know that Catherine. We don't know enough about this place to make a plan. Maybe you should just go along with Tavon. Listen to his stories and nod your head. Fake it for a while. Gather new information. It could help us get back to Jason faster. I contemplated the plan.

Wouldn't he think it was weird if I just started listening to him? I don't think so. He really wants you on his side, so make him think you are. Alex is from a royal bloodline. I'm betting she can teach us skills we can use to break out of here. Catherine had a point. I don't understand anything about my body anymore. Alex could definitely help me. I couldn't help but wonder what was happening between both of us. That's not important right now. You're right. I guess we're going to have to fake it til we make it.
