"Soo," Jacob says, intertwining his fingers with mine as we walk down the street, me relieved to get off of that terrifying motorcycle. Jacob should not be driving, that's all I can say. I can't help but notice how rough his hands feel against my soft ones. It's nice... Kinda like the dream was. I shake my head to rid myself of the memory and look up at Jacob, smiling.
"Soo.." I answer and he smiles. Thanking Jacob as he holds the door for me, I step inside the local cafe. Smelling the fresh black coffee, I smile, my mind flooding with blurry memories of my dad sitting at the head of the breakfast table, sipping his black coffee as mom makes waffles and whipped cream and strawberries for our usual Sunday brunch at the kitchen counter. I blink and allow Jacob to guide me to a table by the window.
"Excited to start school here?" He asks once we're seated, playing with the salt shaker.
"Definitely not. Senior year at a new school is gonna be very awkward. The only people I'll know is my siblings and Bella, and that's kinda sad." I look up to see Jacob frowning. "What is it Jakey?" I smile slightly at the babyish name, but it soon dies down when his frown stays prominent on his handsome face. "Jacob?" He shakes his head and smiles bitterly.
"Forget it."
"Tell me." I insist and wait impatiently as he sighs and takes his time answering.
"I just don't like you referring to those things as your siblings." He looks up through his eyelashes but even that adorable gesture doesn't stop the rock from forming in my stomach.
"They are not things Jacob." I say sternly and he sighs.
"They don't even breathe air, Eve. They don't sleep. That's not normal." I glare at him as he continues to play with the salt shaker, avoiding my stare. Finally I snatch the salt out of his hands and slam it on the table.
"You know what's not normal? Me dating a boy that turns into a flea covered canine. Not to mention that I haven't even known him half a year." My defensive state doesn't shock me, I inherited my temper from my dad.
"Oh we're dating now, are we?" He says and I glower at him, trying to ignore the hurt those denying words caused.
"What would you call this, friends with benefits?" I snap. He shrugs and I roll my eyes, glaring out the window. After a second, a middle-aged waitress walks up.
"Hi Jacob, and you must be Evelyn. Whatever you're ordering today, it's on the house. Call it a welcome to Forks type deal." She smiles warmly at me and I try to return the expression with not much luck.
"Please, call me Eve, and just an iced tea and a small piece of whatever pie you have please." She smiles and writes it down before turning to Jacob, who had been studying my expression wearily.
"Do I get the same freebie food?" He jokes and the waitress laughs.
"We'd have the kitchen run out of stock if I allowed that." Jacob smiles crookedly before saying,
"Just a water, please." The waitress nods and walks back towards the kitchen, Jacob fixing his gaze on me again. I glare down at the table once again.
"I'm sorry. I just don't trust them." He says pleadingly.
"They're not much stranger than you, you know." I mumble.
"That's debatable." He mutters and I give him a warning glare. Sighing, he shifts in his seat and I look down at the table top, picking at a chipped spot.
"The Cullens are worried the newborns might come here," Jacob says quietly, leaning forward so gossip loving ears can't listen in. I shake my head.
"That's crazy. There's nothing exciting here. Why would they come to Forks?" Jacob looks at me.
"Maybe revenge." I feel chills up my back as I think of what happened between Bella and a peculiar sounding now dead vampire known as James."I'm sexy and I know it!!" I yell as I dance randomly in the kitchen to the blaring radio. It's become a habit when I'm home alone, which is quite often lately. As I turn down the radio to a reasonable volume, I pull the popcorn bag out of the microwave and open it, shoving a few pieces in my mouth. Letting out a yell as my tongue burns, I rush to the sink and turn on the water as cold as it will go, taking large gulps. As I straighten up, still leaning on the counter slightly, I look out the window beside the kitchen and squint as I see what looks to be a slightly tall figure standing on the deck. Trying to see through the dark night, it's hard to tell who it is, but judging by the lean muscled build, most likely male. Too lean to be Jacob or even Edward, too tall to be Jasper or Carlisle. I squint even more and take a step closer to the window but the figure disappears with a blur as soon as I'm almost close enough to see. Weird. I shrug, and take some now cooled off popcorn, crunching it hungrily and walking up to my room. Probably just seeing things, I assure myself.
