I pull on my pajamas that I had purchased with Alice slowly. They were a pretty silk type material and were a nice lilac colour. My dark toffee coloured hair is very thick, and in deep big waves naturally, though it only comes about four inches past my shoulder. I pull it into a loose side braid and look in the mirror at my silver eyes with a hint of dark blue around the pupil.
I had spent the rest of the afternoon in my room, removing tags and folding clothes as well as putting them away. I then roughly sketched the new house from all different aspects and angles with a charcoal pencil from my new set (also another present). I sighed and decided to walk down to get something to eat, as it was already seven thirty. I padded downstairs slowly and heard quiet voices talking angrily. Not wanting to interrupt, I walk down slowly and quietly. I recognize the voices as Rosalie and Carlisle. I stop outside the kitchen, vaguely unaware of my eavesdropping.
"She can't stay." Rosalie hisses. I hear someone angrily hit their fist on a countertop, mostly likely her.
"She has no one else." Carlisle says bluntly in his usual calm, soothing tone.
"She'll find out. And then we'll have to move again. And where will she go?" Rosalie snarls. Before Carlisle can reply, she starts again. "The killings in Seattle have increased..." Her warning, cautious tone breaks off as they both go silent. Realizing that I've probably been caught, I start back down the steps.
"She's coming, I can smell her." Rosalie states, and I hear her clicking heels walk in the direction of the stairs. I hurry down to the bottom just as she appears, looking at me suspiciously."I um, came down for something to eat. I'm sorry, is this a bad time?" I start innocently.
"Save it. I know you heard." She stares daggers at me. Carlisle walks in then and gives Rosalie a cool look.
"Rosalie. Do you not remember what we just talked about? The part about treating our new family member with kindness?" He stares her down calmly. I feel my cheeks redden, but try not to smile like a bashful idiot at being called family. She nods curtly before walking past me, perfectly curled hair bouncing, her shoulder just brushing mine enough for me to get the message. I watch her go and then turn back to Carlisle.
"You were hungry you said?" He says. I nod shyly.
"I'm sorry, I completely forgot you ate." He chuckles. I smile politely, thinking what an odd thing that was to say. Maybe it was a joke.
"Well I don't drink blood." My feeble attempt at humour. Suddenly Carlisle's jaw drops in shock and his eyes search mine with worry. As I look at him in confusion, realization shows on his face and he smiles.
"Haha." He says almost weakly and turns, walking towards the kitchen. I follow hesitantly, confused by the shocked look that had just been on his face. As we enter the kitchen, he says,
"We have already eaten, I would've called you but I wanted to leave you to your thoughts." As I give him a questioning look he returns it with a sympathetic one. I nod suddenly.
"You spoke to Alice." He nods.
"Said you were quite upset." I look down at the shiny tiled floor. He walks up and puts a supporting hand on my shoulder gently.
"If you need anyone to talk to, I'm always here." He says. I nod and smile. He returns my smile and walks to the fridge, opening it.
"You can help yourself, or I can make you something?" He offers.
"I can manage." I smile. Better get used to living here sooner than later.. I think. Carlisle nods and walks up to me, giving me a quick hug.
"I'll be in my room if you need anything." He assures and I nod. As soon as he leaves I open the fridge and look at all the various foods. I look in confusion as I realize nothing at all has been open.. I shrug, disregarding it and decide on just a cheese and meat sandwich. My eyes widen at all the different cheeses and sandwich meats in the one fridge drawer. None opened of course. I pick out some ham and regular cheddar and choose a sour dough bread out of the various ones in the bread box on the counter. I make my sandwich, opening a bottle of mayo and putting a tiny bit on.
After I'm done, I open the dishwasher after rinsing my dishes and stick them in. That's when I realize that the dishwasher is empty except for my plate and glass I had used to have some water, along with a butter knife. I look at the dishwasher in confusion. You'd think there would be seven people's dishes in here. "We have already eaten.." Carlisle's words spin through my mind. I shake my head and close the dishwasher. Maybe they had takeout? I open the garbage can to reveal emptiness. Maybe they changed it, my conscience argues. I nod in agreement and grab a water bottle out of the fridge, heading upstairs.
