Song choice: k y r a 🍿

Two weeks passed by more quickly than Angeles expected. In those weeks she managed to convince Axl to bring his parents over for dinner at her house. That way, Angeles's parents could try to coax a little humanity out of their tiny hearts to do something for Garrett's condition.

After explaining the situation to her mother, she was surprised by how vigorously her mom agreed to help. They all decided that if the dinner turned out to be unsuccessful, they would have no choice but to call CPS.

So now here she was, the night before Halloween, getting ready to have an unavoidably awkward dinner with Axl's family. Walking towards her vanity mirrior, Angeles combed out her raven hair until not a single tangle was in sight. She stepped back to examine her appearance, a black halter top tucked into a white flared skirt. For some reason, something seemed to be missing from the outfit. But what?

A wooden box on the desk caught her attention, and a certain object came into mind. Angeles hastily opened the box and plucked out a golden necklace, a large sparkling triangle pendant held on by two chains.

"Yes maam," Angeles muttered to herself in approval as she wrapped it around her neck. She was mildly baffled as to why she was putting so much effort into her appearance, when it wasn't that formal of an event.

It's just Axl.

Oh, and his parents.

Angeles halted in her movements, staring disbelieving in the mirrior.

I mean- this isn't- obviously it doesn't mean anything. Obviously. This is about something completely different. Don't be stupid, She scoffed to herself.

It was at that moment that Jose chose to walk in wearing a simple hoodie and joggers, the complete opposite of formal. Angeles couldn't help but sigh at his lack of effort.

"You couldn't at least try and dress up?" She asked disapprovingly.

Jose looked at her from where he stood by a bookshelf. He gave her a once-over, and it made Angeles slightly uncomfortable. Like he knew something she didn't. Which he didn't, of course."What, because your boyfriends coming over? I couldn't care less," He replied easily, picking a DVD off the floor. "Avengers Endgame, nice," he smiled, "been looking for this."

"What?!" Angeles exclaimed in shock, putting her hands on her hips.

"I've been looking for Avengers Endgame-"

"No!" She interrupted quickly, "I mean the first thing you said." She glared, staring hard at her brother in defiance. "He's not my boyfriend."

"Uh, sure, whatever you say,"

"And I'm telling you to dress nice because his parents are probably going to be very argumentative, and we need to look smarter than them. Hence, wearing high fashioned clothing," She motioned to herself, feeling like this should be obvious to everyone.

"Or, " Jose rolled his eyes, walking towards Angeles's bed and flopping down on it, "You're just covering up the fact that you want to impress your boyfriend."

"Not my boyfriend."

"Okay," He shrugged.

"God, why are you even here?" She said irritably. "Is there something you want?"
