"Out of all the stupid things you've ever done, Angeles, this one really takes the cake."

It was a Wednesday afternoon, and Angeles was beginning to think this was a bad idea. A few moments ago they had propped the door open to blow in the cool breeze, and after sitting on the situation for so long, Angeles decided to just spill the beans.

Maybe it was bad timing.

"What do you mean?! I'm trying to help a neglected child! How could that possibly be stupid?!" She exclaimed.

"For many reasons!" Kyra groaned in frustration, "First of all, maybe you should've called CPS on Garrett's parents instead of taking matters into your own hands. Secondly, seriously how the fuck did you think this was gonna work? I know your parents are good people, but they have bills to pay, children to feed, and for you to just blindly sign them up for something like this is so- irrational!" She finished, nearly slamming the door to the break room they had just walked into, Angeles following hurriedly after.

"Okay," She resigned,"so maybe I got a little caught up in the moment. But you would too if you saw the look on Axl's face! He looked so defeated and sad..."

Kyra gave her a look. "You always had a thing about saving helpless things. First the puppy, now this."

"Shut up," Angeles sighed, "Believe me, I know. I can't help it."

"Clearly."

Angeles glared. "So what do you suggest I do? Take it back? Say- 'oh sorry about your brother dying but unfortunately my finances aren't really stable enough to afford all that medical shit' ? Is that what you want me to say?"

"No, but maybe if you thought like a normal human being you would try helping Axl convince his parents to enroll in Medicaid programs or financial assistance."

There was a moment of silence, evidently because Angeles was taking a second to absorb her friend's words. She began quietly-
"Look I didn't even know about all that shit until just now so... but also Axl's parents don't even believe Garrett has cancer-"

"Convince them. Something. If they still don't believe it, call CPS on their asses, like I said. Its better than just taking back your promise and leaving it alone." Kyra said with a sincere look in her eyes.

"Of course I wouldn't leave it alone! Who do you think I am-"

"I heard a screaming chipmunk.
What are we fighting about now?" Jose asked as he sauntered in suddenly. "Also, its my turn to use the break room. So- out you go." He gestured with his hand to the open door, while Angeles also made a gesture towards him, except more unfriendly.

As the two girls rounded the table to exit, Kyra mouthed to Angeles, "Tell Axl."

The next day during school, Kyra became sure that Celia hated her. Besides the usual bitchiness, Celia was acting like she genuinely couldn't stand the sight of her. And it unnerved Kyra, to say the least.

At history, Celia roughly pushed her out of the doorway as she tried to enter the classroom. Then at lunch she "accidentally" dumped orange juice on her shoes. And then Mr. Kingsley had the audacity to pair them up for a small project, of which Celia refused to speak to her the entire time, only muttering obviously rude things under her breath every time Kyra attempted conversation.
