Lelani's POV

"Here, open yo mouth Tavares." I said while holding up a spoon filled with green apple jello. Tavares mugged the fuck outta me before smacking the spoon out of my hand, sending the contents all over my brand new stacked joggers. I sucked my teeth while standing up abruptly, my baby pink joggers now stained with bright green liquid.

"Nigga is you fucking kidding me right now?!" I yelled, not giving a damn who could hear us with his room door wide open. Tavares pointed a finger in my face while sitting up in the hospital bed, wincing a lil bit as he did so.

"Watch who the fuck you talm to, Lee. Don't let all these medical tubes and shit fool yo ass. I'm still a real street nigg-" He whispered hoarse as hell before I cut him off and dumped the remaining of the jello cup on his face, watching as the shit sprayed into his eye and into his mouth. He choked before coughing violently and raising his arm over towards the bedside table, clearly asking for me to pass him the unopened bottle of water that the Doctor had left him. I folded my arms together, feeling a lot like Helen from Diary Of A Mad Black Woman when she let her crippled ass nigga almost drown in the bathtub.

"Now look atchu! Now look atchu! Beggin' me for water and shit witcho Bane from Batman sounding ass! Nah, matter of fact! You deadass sound like that one dried up worm off Spongebob that bought chocolate from them niggas!" I laughed at my own joke, leaning over to open the water bottle for him nonetheless. I twisted the cap, watching him eye me dangerously before I brought the tip to his lips and tilted it carefully, so that he could drink at his own pace. He drunk like a newborn baby, taking his sweet ass time to swallow as he let the water sit in his mouth for a little while first. I couldn't lie, I felt bad for my baby. Nobody deserved to be shot in the neck no matter how bad the circumstances. Now he had to do physical therapy for neck pain and injury relief, and was ordered to keep his neck brace on for at least another month and a half. Knowing Tavares, he'd already thrown that shit in the trash the second the doctor left the room. I hadn't heard anything from Keith, Tadoe, Breezo or Gino in 3 days ever since they got a call that Mr. Young knew about our whereabouts and was apparently tracking our every move. The fact that we were still in Ohio was highly unsettling to me, I wanted nothing more than to drive back to Chicago and hide underneath the covers until this entire situation was done. I hadn't heard from my Mother ever since I found out she had AIDS and i had no intention on communicating with her. Just because she gave birth to me didn't mean I was obligated to have an actual relationship with her. Nancy had been a better mother to me than my own could have ever been. I smiled thinking about her white overprotective ass.

"The fuck you smilin' fa?" Tavares said after taking 10 minutes to sip some damn water. I shook my head while pulling back the bottle and screwing the cap back on.

"Mind yo business-" I started, getting ready to go off on his ass before my phone buzzed on the bedside table. Tavares and I both peeked over at the same time to see who it was and ended up bumping foreheads together. I gasped before clutching my forehead in pain.

"Nigga! You really bout to get on my last fuckin nerves! Damn!" I said before grabbing the phone off the table and checking it real fast.

I know the way I be texting her gets on her nerves but I do the shit anyway to piss her off. I smile to myself before setting down my phone and glancing around the room for the TV remote. I stared at the TV momentarily, seeing a bunch of female fairy characters dance and fly around. I blinked, my eyes gazing back over to Tavares. This nigga was well in tuned with it, watching the TV intently as the fairy's on the screen helped their black friend prepare for her first high school concert.
